Description

The 2024 Spinifex Rosé is yet another benchmark release from Pete Schell, a winemaker who treats rosé with the same precision and intention as his finest reds. This Provençal-inspired beauty blends Grenache (62%) and Mataro (38%) from four dry-grown sites across Angaston, Ebenezer, Vine Vale, and Bethany in the Barossa, with vines ranging from 25 to 90 years old.

Each parcel was treated with care, spending two to six hours on skins before being gently pressed to tank for fermentation. A small portion underwent malolactic fermentation, and the wine matured on lees in tank for six months, building texture and complexity while retaining its vibrant, refreshing character.

The result is a rosé that’s full of energy and finesse. Expect notes of wild strawberries, pink grapefruit, and a subtle savoury herb edge. The palate is bright and crisp, with crunchy acidity, a silky texture, and a clean, dry finish that makes it impossible to resist another sip.

A standout example of Australian rosé that channels the elegance of Provence while showcasing the depth and character of Barossa fruit. Perfect for long lunches, alfresco dinners, or simply when you want a wine that’s as serious as it is easy to love.

    Great Rose

This was recommended to me by a friend, a former wine maker of excellent wines.

Spinifex Rose is the nicest Australia Rose we have had for some time.

It has wonderful nose, is dry and flavourful. Stands up well to Provence Roses .

    Thoroughly recommend this wine.

    Perfect Dry Rose

    Smashable Rośe with texture.

Spinifex’s provençal-styled rosé is among the best this country offers, and 2024 is another stellar release. This year, the blend comprises Grenache (62%) and Mataro (38%) sourced from four dry-grown sites in Angaston, Ebenezer, Vine Vale and the southern end of the Bethany foothills. Soils vary across the sites from gravelly sand to red clay, and vine age ranges from 25 to 90 years. The (predominantly) bush vines are dry-grown.

Each batch spent two to six hours on skins before being pressed to tank for fermentation. A small portion of the wine went through malolactic conversion, and maturation took place on lees in tank for six months. The resulting wine offers the kind of energy and snappy, crunchy lines that were once the exclusive domaine of the finest Provence rosés.

Spinifex Wines

Spinifex are one of the 'New' Barossa's true pioneer producers. Husband and wife team Peter Schell & Magali Gely have extensive experience in southern France, which proves the inspiration for their unique wines made from predominantly Rhone varietals.

Spinifex was on the front line of the new wave of Barossa producers. Peter's wines brought a new sensibility to the region, they were lower in alcohol, concentrated but elegant, and balanced to perfection. He takes the art of blending into the realm of the virtuoso. There are few wineries who deliver refinement and poise from the Barossa Valley like Spinifex.
