Description

The Margaret Pooley Tribute is a reserve bottling that only makes an appearance when the season is truly exceptional. Sourced from the original 1985 Riesling plantings, this is Anna Pooley’s most concentrated and explosive expression of the variety. It spent five months on lees in old French oak puncheons, a move that builds glorious texture and serious structure.

The 2024 vintage is in absolute peak form, leading with mineral-edged aromas of struck match, lime zest, and crushed stone. While it’s loaded with vibrant citrus and apple blossom, there is a complex, savoury layer beneath - think beeswax, clover, and a distinct oyster shell salinity. It’s the shape of the wine that really impresses; it glides along a sleek, saline rail with electric acidity and a flinty, mouth-watering snap on the finish.

Enthusiasts should jump on this release. It possesses a growing power and a tightly wound structure that promises a long, golden-hued evolution in the cellar. It is a benchmark Tasmanian Riesling that sits a cut above, offering both immediate racy energy and immense cellaring potential.

"Another excellent release that will hold its own in any benchmark riesling tasting... Will benefit from some time in the bottle, albeit delicious now. Drink or hold."

"It's the shape that grabs me. Sleek and marble smooth with a light sapidity to the acidity, a saline rail upon which that lovely fruit glides without any friction, sailing long, elegant and true. It's wonderful drinking."
- Dave Brookes (Halliday Wine Companion)

97 points - "Riesling sourced from the Cooinda Vale vineyard in the Coal River Valley that sees five months on lees in old French oak puncheons. Again in fine form in the '24 vintage, with juicy lime, grapefruit and green apple fruits with an apple blossom flourish and hints of clover, crushed stone, beeswax, dried lime zest and lemongrass. It's the shape that grabs me. Sleek and marble smooth with a light sapidity to the acidity, a saline rail upon which that lovely fruit glides without any friction, sailing long, elegant and true. It's wonderful drinking." - Dave Brookes (Halliday Wine Companion)

98 points - "Another excellent release that will hold its own in any benchmark riesling tasting. Mineral-edged aromas of struck match, lemon and lime zest, crushed stones, fresh grapefruit and white orchard fruit. The tightly wound palate has an electric mouthfeel with an underlying, persistent and growing power. Will benefit from some time in the bottle, albeit delicious now. Drink or hold." - Ryan Montgomery (James Sucklling)

A youthful and vibrant Riesling, aromas loaded with lemongrass and citrus peel, accompanied by lime flesh and lemon pith. The palate revelas a textural richness with kiwi, gooseberry, apple sherbet and oyster shell salinity. This is a racy and delicate Riesling now, finishing with a flinty, mouth-watering snap. Enjoy its youthful energy today, or tuck it away to witness its inevitable evolution into a rich, golden-hued classic.

Pooley

Pooley is one of the leading family-owned wineries in Tasmania, renowned for their exquisite Single Vineyard examples of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Riesling from the Coal River region, less than an hour north of Hobart.

The family vineyard was planted in 1985 by Margaret and Denis Pooley. Today it is in the hands of the third generation of Pooleys, with award-winning winemaker Anna Pooley heading up the cellar and her brother Matt as viticulturalist. They make a killer team and the family business is going from strength to strength.

Anna's wines are pure, refined and eminently cellar-worthy. A class-act producer setting a cracking pace for all of Tasmania to follow.

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
