Description

This is McLaren Vale Grenache at its easygoing, juicy best. Made from a few choice old bush vine blocks on the Taranga property - some nudging 60 years old—this is Corrina Wright doing what she does best: making delicious, no-fuss reds that are full of life and absolutely cracking to drink.

Everything about this wine is built for max enjoyment. It’s all about lifted aromatics, pure fruit and gentle texture - half the batch sees stainless steel, the rest gets mellowed out in big old oak and a concrete egg for good measure. The result is light on its feet, full of red berry flavour, with just enough savoury spice and grip to keep things interesting. It's the kind of wine that somehow vanishes by the second glass.

It’s unpretentious, generous and crowd-friendly - in other words, exactly what a great modern Aussie Grenache should be.

"Fragrant, fruitful but not overt, with red-fruited appeal, dusty earth, florals, spice, and a cleansing finish… Lovely, and fine value."
- Marcus Ellis (Halliday Wine Companion)

"Plump raspberries, wild strawberries, nettle leaf and terra cotta clay… Spirited, vivid fruit and pulpy drinkability. Accessible wine like this makes me a brand addict for life."
- Shanteh Wale (Wine Pilot)

"Plum, cherries, juniper, orange peel and a world of spice… Lifted, fresh and full of vigour with fine, lithe tannins. Hard to resist."
- Jeni Port (Wine Pilot)

"Red berried fruits at the steering wheel with spice, florals and roasted nuts… Elegant, vibrant, and purely drinkable."

"Ripe forest berries, bresaola, anise and curing meat on a supple palate… Silky tannins and a slippery, instantly appealing finish."
- Stuart Knox (The Real Review)

93 points - "Made in the first year in the new winery (the old Gemtree winery, where they also host a coterie of exciting small producers), this came off three estate blocks, with an average age of 30 years; 10% whole bunch; matured half in steel, with the rest a 4500L cask, older puncheons and a concrete egg. This sits neatly in the grenache zeitgeist, moderately pale in hue, fragrant, fruitful but not overt, with red-fruited appeal, a dusty hint of earth, wafting florals, some spice, a textural, fruitful cushioning and a cleansing but not brisk finish. It’s lovely, and fine value." - Marcus Ellis (Halliday Wine Companion)

93 points - "Early summer berries. Plump raspberries, wild strawberries and nettle leaf. There is some terra cotta clay and an autumnal leaf savoury note that halts this wine from being in the red confectionery realms but the fruit is ridiculously spirited and vivid. Mouth watering and a pulpy sensation to the drinkability. Another wine from Oliver’s Taranga that should be included in your yearly allocation. Heck buy more than case, before you know it you’ll be wondering where it all went. Accessible wine like this makes me a brand addict for life. If they can do this in this price range what more can they do! Serve with fatty pork and truffle salami. Drink now or will cellar for another 5 years." - Shanteh Wale (Wine Pilot)

93 points - "This is one of those wines where the simple twist of the screwcap and a pour into the glass releases one heavenly, lasting fragrance that simply never lets go. It’s a scent and character that penetrates the entire wine in plum, cherries, juniper, orange peel and a world of spice and vanilla. It’s lifted and fresh and full of vigour and verve assisted by fine, lithe tannins that keep the energy flowing. It’s a wine that many will find hard to resist." - Jeni Port (Wine Pilot)

92 points - "This is both a tidy and an attractive Grenache with red berried fruits at the steering wheel and general spice/floral and roasted nut notes flying joyfully throughout. The style, the quality and the price are all in a good place here. We get elegance, we get vibrance, we get pure drinkability." - Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)

92 points - "Full and bright ruby hue. Ripe forest berries and bresaola aromas. Sweet berry fruit fills in on entry, then anise and curing meat notes add character to the medium to full palate. Acidity is supple, giving a lift as needed, then hands off to fine silky tannins that carry to the end. A slippery wine that has instant appeal." - Stuart Knox (The Real Review)

Delicious! Maybe a little too easy to drink, if only the bottle was bigger!

History
With 100 hectares of premium grapevines on the Taranga property, the Oliver family tends over 50 unique blocks featuring a variety of grape types, clones, soil profiles, and vine ages—offering rich diversity and depth.

Wine & Vintage
The 2024 harvest began with a wet, cool spring that transitioned into a dry and consistently warm growing season—ideal conditions for Grenache to thrive. McLaren Vale continues its “purple patch,” delivering another standout year for this increasingly beloved varietal. Grenache remains the darling of consumers, winemakers, and viticulturists alike.

The Year That Continued
2024 marked a major milestone: the first vintage processed at Oliver & Press Winemakers. After 180+ years of grapegrowing, 18 years with a cellar door, and 30 years of winemaking—Oliver’s Taranga finally acquired its own winery. Corrina Wright, after years of contract processing, partnered with Bob & Yuko Harris (Mike Press Wines) to purchase the facility. Now home to not only Oliver’s Taranga but also many local and interstate wine brands, the site is supported by an exceptional cellar team.

Oliver's Taranga

Five generations of the Oliver family have been farming land in McLaren Vale dating back to the 1840s.

There are now 100 hectares of land under vine on the Taranaga property - Taranga is a corruption of the aboriginal word Tarangk, meaning 'the middle' which was used by the Kaurna, a local aboriginal tribe.

Under the trailblazing guidance of winemaker Corrina Wright, there are now near 50 blocks of different varieties and clones. A McLaren Vale melting pot!
