Description

Meadowbank’s roots with Riesling go deep - literally. Vines were first planted here in 1974, and the site has quietly built a reputation as one of Tasmania’s finest. The 2024 vintage continues that line in style, recently taking out ‘Best 2024 Vintage Wine’ at the 2025 Tasmanian Wine Show.

The fruit comes from both the original ’74 vines and newer plantings of German clones, fermented separately in stainless steel (for freshness) and old French oak (for texture). Peter Dredge brings it all together in a wine that’s tight, racy and beautifully expressive.

It’s all about purity and balance - zingy citrus, green apple, floral lift and that unmistakable flinty Tassie edge. A touch of residual sugar rounds things out without dulling the acid drive, giving the wine tension, charm and serious drinkability.

Already in great shape but with plenty of ageing potential, the 2024 is another standout from this historic vineyard.

96 points
"Pure, taut citrus and apple fruits and a vivid, brisk mineral cadence. Finishes long and moreish.."
- Dave Brookes (Halliday Wine Companion)

96 points - "An Upper Derwent Valley riesling made by Peter Dredge that shows all the cut and crystalline focus that you'd expect from this top Tasmanian producer. Lime, grapefruit and green apple with hints of crushed riverstone, citrus blossom, clover, sea spray, lemon zest and lighter fennel at the top, and lemongrass further back. High-tensile stuff on the palate; it's all about pure, taut citrus and apple fruits and a vivid, brisk mineral cadence. Finishes long and moreish.." - Dave Brookes (Halliday Wine Companion)

    Very Nice

Great wine and you can tell it's not a cheap riesling. There was more fruit flavours than I was expecting, but still dry.

    Great Riesling!

Really enjoyable. Pronounced citrus and green apple notes, very refreshing and great spring time drink.

Meadowbank's legacy with Riesling dates back to 1974, when the very first vines were planted in our hidden valley. Over the years, our vineyard has produced some of Tasmania’s finest Rieslings and consistently received high praise from wine critics.

Our 2018 Riesling was awarded 98 points by James Halliday and sold out in record time. Subsequent vintages have continued to follow suit, with Gary Walsh commenting on the 2020 that "It's one of the best Rieslings I’ve tasted in quite some time". '21 and '22 vintages continued to receive high ratings of 95 points from both the Halliday Wine Companion and The Wine Front. Then, enter 2023 - one of our most punchy and flavourful rieslings to date - with another 98 point score from James Halliday. Truly mind blowing stuff!

So, how does the 2024 version compare?

We're thrilled to announce our 2024 Riesling has received the prestigious accolade of 'Best 2024 Vintage Wine' at the 2025 Tasmanian Wine Show!

With a delightful balance of zesty citrus and green apple, this wine is crisp, racy and laser-focused in style. Beautiful floral aromas overlay a backbone of flinty minerality, with a mouth-watering taste that will linger well after your final sip. This is a super vibrant expression of our cool-climate vineyard and we're very excited to see how this wine continues to evolve.

Our grapes originate from our 1974 planted vines combined with Gerald's more recently planted German Riesling clones. Our winemaker, Peter Dredge, splits these Riesling ferments between stainless steel tanks (for refined freshness) and old French oak barrels (for complexity and texture) - the final blend produces a wine where bright acidity and a gentle kiss of residual sugar dance together in perfect harmony. A truly captivating wine that is completely and utterly delicious.

We highly recommend grabbing a 6-pack of this wine and storing some in your cellar - you can certainly enjoy drinking it right now but as with all of our of our rieslings, they're only going to get better with age! As Tyson Stelzer previously noted - "Remarkable line and length promise grand things in decades to come."

Meadowbank

Meadowbank is one of the oldest vineyards in Tasmania with the Ellis family having farmed this site since 1976.

This is one of the most important sites on the Apple Isle.

After taking a brief hiatus from producing their own wines, Meadowbank now has the formidable talents of winemaker Peter Dredge at their disposal.

With Dredge in the winemaking hot seat, Meadowbank is set to be one of the benchmark producers in Tasmania for many years to come.
