Description

Meadowbank’s Chardonnay has quietly cemented itself as one of Tasmania’s finest. Made by Peter Dredge in partnership with the Ellis family, it’s a fresh, finely textured take on cool-climate Chardonnay - modern, understated, and incredibly well made.

The fruit comes from 1987 plantings, hand-picked and wild fermented with full natural malo. Just 10% new oak keeps the structure clean and the fruit front and centre. It’s bright and citrus-driven, with white peach, lemon curd, and a flinty edge - all wrapped around a tight acid spine that gives the wine real shape.

It’s a style that’ll appeal to fans of Chablis - linear, savoury and built more on energy than richness - though this is unmistakably Tasmanian. Limited volumes as always, and well worth grabbing for both early drinking and short-term cellaring.

Say hello to the newest vintage of our pinnacle white wine, the one and only Meadowbank Chardonnay.

So, what's all the hype about? This classic, cool-climate Tasmanian Chardonnay is one of the purest expressions of our hidden vineyard. It consistently receives very high praise from wine reviewers and journalists year after year (it has never received less than 95 points from the Halliday Wine Companion alone!). With such a great track record, we're confident in assuring both chardonnay lovers and haters alike that this wine will surely impress and delight.

Our 2024 Meadowbank Chardonnay is nothing short of outrageously delicious. This wine is a vibrant, golden-hued beauty that gives you instant appeal, as aromas of white peach and citrus zest dance earnestly from the glass. Rich and utterly tantalising on the palate, it delivers all the complex flint and lemon curd flavours you can dream of. It is bright, fresh and absolutely jam packed with flavour.

These grapes are taken from our 1987-planted Chardonnay vines. We lovingly nurture and harvest all the grapes by hand, before passing them on to our winemaker, Peter Dredge. Pete is all about minimal intervention in the winery and simply allows the vineyard to speak for itself. He takes whole bunches of grapes and presses them straight into hand-selected and pre-seasoned French oak barrels (about 10% new oak). The wine is left to mature on yeast lees for 9 months, before being bottled without fining agents.

What we love most about this wine, besides its absolute drinkability, is how wonderfully versatile it is. Enjoy it on its own, or pair it with cheese, chicken, seafood, pasta, roast vegetables, soup, even fried food... the options are almost endless.

2024 is a vintage to celebrate - this wine will happily sleep and continue to evolve beautifully in your cellar for 3-5 years. The only downside... this is a very small batch, single vineyard wine, so stock is highly limited. Seriously, grab some while you can!

Meadowbank

Meadowbank is one of the oldest vineyards in Tasmania with the Ellis family having farmed this site since 1976.

This is one of the most important sites on the Apple Isle.

After taking a brief hiatus from producing their own wines, Meadowbank now has the formidable talents of winemaker Peter Dredge at their disposal.

With Dredge in the winemaking hot seat, Meadowbank is set to be one of the benchmark producers in Tasmania for many years to come.
