Description

Albariño isn’t exactly a staple in the Hunter, but Ollie Margan has been quietly proving it belongs. The vines went into the family’s Ceres Hill vineyard in 2014 on a sandy river flat, and they’ve been farmed organically for the past few years.

For the 2024, Ollie kept things simple but fun. Part of the fruit went straight to old oak, part spent about ten days on skins, and then it all came together in concrete for a short rest. The idea was freshness with a bit of texture, nothing too heavy.

The result is a bright, zippy white with citrus and pear at its core, a little savoury edge, and enough grip to make it feel food-friendly. It’s crisp and refreshing but still has a bit of interest behind it – the kind of wine you want on the table all summer.

91 points - "This is refreshing and easy to come at, lots of quince, preserved lemon, cumquat and rosemary herbal inflection. It leans into sour-sweet credentials with good balance and offers up a distinct wine that speaks in the voice of the variety well. The squeaky texture works well. It’s even, balanced, well done overall, and a tasty treat. Something different, good." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

The best sort of surprise

Compares well with anything I've had from Rias Braxas and the best Australia albarino I've drank.
I prefer the more astringent interpretations and this isn't quite there but I'd still be happy to drink, and buy, this again.

From the Ceres Hill vineyard, planted by the Margan’s in 2014. Sandy river flat, managed under regenerative and organic principles since 2022. Two blocks go into this wine; the first is direct pressed and fermented with solids in old large format French oak, the second is fermented on its skins for 10 days. The ‘on skins’ ferment is pressed off and combined with the barrel ferment to undergo malolactic and maturation in concrete for six months prior to bottling.

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
