Description

Lethbridge's main man, Ray Nadeson, takes his Pinot Gris very seriously. Indeed, it would be hard to find a more 'worked' or 'crafted' Pinot Gris in this country.

His hand-picked fruit is meticulously basket pressed as whole bunches away from oxygen before being fermented with indigenous yeast in French oak barrels. It then sees extended time on lees in old barrels before being bottled without filtration.

The texture and phenolics here, abound. If you enjoy a more voluptuous and weighty style of Pinot Gris, then this is the wine for you, as Lethbridge exemplifies the style better than almost anyone. Enjoy!

"Planted in mid-'80s. Fermented in stainless and wood with some components receiving up to eight hours' skin contact. Bright green gold. Energetic and aromatic with freshly cut white pear, spring flowers and a hint of spice. Dry, textured, saline and long and a quite superb example of this semi-aromatic variety."

The Story:
You heard it first from us back in 2012—Pinot Gris is officially the next big thing. Apparently, there are now more Pinot Gris vines than Riesling vines in Australia, and there are more Pinot Gris vines in Australia than in France! In France, Pinot Gris is primarily grown in the northeast, while in Australia, it’s grown everywhere.

Region and climate are as important as winemaking style. Our Pinot Gris is sourced exclusively from cool-climate vineyards, yielding less than 2 tonnes per acre. These low yields and natural yeast ferments ensure our style is intensely aromatic, flavorful, rich, spicy, and textural. Discover it for yourself!

The Wine:
Made in a complex Alsatian style, this wine is crafted in small batches and wild-fermented in new French oak. Some portions undergo a touch of skin contact and are aged on fine lees in foudre before being bottled young and fresh. The result is a wine that is intensely aromatic, with notes of red apple skin, earthy citrus, and spice. Tension and texture on the palate give it fantastic length.
