Description

If Pinot Gris/Grigio floats your boat, then this little number from Sam Scott should hit the spot.

It's Adelaide Hills fruit made in two stages. First, keep it fresh and bright with early picking and quick pressing avoiding any tannin or chew - pristine juice is the most important. Then with careful and clever winemaking, Sam weaves savoury elements throughout the wine with intentional use of oxygen and lees.

The final result is a wine that is both fresh and textural at the same time. It's Pinot Grigio built for drinking with food or without.

"We love Pinot Grigio for the refreshing crispness it brings to the bar or table."
- Sam Scott (La Prova)

    Light & zesty - recommended!

This drop has a light, youthful nose with notes of zesty lime, green apples, grapefruit, and pear. It's a dry white, with medium acidity, medium body, and savoury lees notes. The finish is medium in length and offers lingering citrus flavours. An easy drinker and sure to be a crowd pleaser, well worth picking up with a night in with friends.

Vibrant, racy, bright.

We love Pinot Grigio for the refreshing crispness it brings to the bar or table. Luckily it’s also perfectly suited to the cooler growing conditions of the Adelaide Hills where we continually see it shine.

Climate | Cooler due to elevation.

Season | The 2023 growing season was mild and cool, with regular rainfall. It started late, finished late and the grapes had lots of hang time and light yields.

Source | Grown in the high, cool central Adelaide Hills. The sites and aspects of south-east and east facing slopes are the pick for early ripening Pinot Grigio which allows the fruit to ripen more slowly.

Winemaking | Hand-picked, chilled overnight and whole-bunch-pressed the following day. This is to get the most pristine free run juice possible, with no phenolics. After we have gone to all those careful lengths we take the gloves off, allow the juice to oxidise and get some fluffy lees into the ferment. This is where we get the savoury note to the bright, vibrant wine. Vegan friendly.

Style | Aromas of Nashi pears and apples, which are also found on the dry, crisp refreshing palate. Great intensity and liveliness. This release benefits from superb ripening conditions, where the vines had ample rainfall and mild-to-warm days, with no extreme conditions, to slowly develop bright delicious flavours.

La Prova

Sam Scott is an excellent guy and a supremely talented winemaker with a clear vision for his La Prova label. Sam aims to make a tastefully packaged range of Australian-grown Italian varieties and deliver them at tremendous value for money. Sounds good to us!

Over a couple of decades making wine in South Australia, Sam has identified his favourite vineyards through Adelaide Hills, McLaren Vale, Barossa Valley and Langhorne Creek where these emerging varieties are best suited to grow and thrive.

The wines he crafts from these vineyards are vibrant and fruit-forward but with a savoury twist and great varietal character. Bang-for-your-buck-wise, the range is up there with the best in the country.

James Halliday once noted, “Scott is a star in the making.” It's fair to say, that star has fully arrived.
