Description

Vermentino is one of those varieties that shines with some skin contact and a few winemaking tricks. It adds an extra dimension of appeal.

Case in point is this Pigato Vermentino from Koerner wines in the Clare Valley. Vermentino was planted around 10 years ago on the family vineyard in Watervale, a pocket on Terra Rossa soils selected as best for this variety.

The wine spent 20 days on skins in open vessels during fermentation before being pressed back to steel to age for 7 months. Bottled without filtering or filtration. It's a winning style, complete with slightly cloudy and grippy elements.

"It's a beautiful thing, attractive to fans of acid and precision, but I really appreciate the texture here too. It's distinct"
- Erin Larkin (The Wine Advocate)

93 point - "The 2024 Pigato is 100% Vermentino and pours with a gentle haze in the glass. There are notes of lemon barley, white pepper, green apple skin, rose petals and musk oil and also cloves. In the mouth, the wine is driven by intense acidity; but totally on the rails and crunchy doesn't accurately describe its impact, because the wine has a sleek texture and is almost creamy. It's a beautiful thing, attractive to fans of acid and precision, but I really appreciate the texture here too. It's distinct, with notes of chalk. 10.3% alcohol, sealed under Diam." - Erin Larkin (The Wine Advocate)

93 points - "Juicy and vibrant, this has a slightly cloudy appearance from 20 days on skins. Mineral aromas of citrus, tea leaves, chalk and fresh ginger. The light-bodied palate has a slight phenolic edge and an energetic drive with a textural, pithy finish. Delicious. Drink now." - James Suckling

92 points - "This is how I like skin contact, as in, it's akin to fruit cordial. Low alcohol, refreshment at the fore, food-friendly and fancy-free. Pure delight, with heady florals, lychee, persimmon, almond nougat and plenty of spice. They've nailed the texture of this wine, the phenolic grip, just so. An excellent release of pigato." - Katrina Butler (Halliday Wine Companion)

Koerner

Growing up in Clare Valley, Damon Koerner developed a deep connection with the region's rich wine history. In 2014, he and his brother Jono launched Koerner Wines to bring fresh energy to their home turf, creating vibrant, modern wines that feel both distinctly Clare and cutting-edge.

Koerner Wines is all about blending tradition with innovation. Damon’s organically-minded approach and contemporary techniques – like fermenting and ageing in clay amphora – result in wines that are bright, food-friendly, and ideally suited to Australia’s climate.

Using his family’s Gullyview vineyard alongside nearby plots, Damon works with Clare Valley classics like Riesling and Cabernet, while also embracing more unique varieties like Carignan, Sciacarello, and top-notch Vermentino. His wines showcase Clare Valley’s diversity, revealing unexpected sides of this iconic region. With a recent expansion into the Adelaide Hills, the range continues to grow and mature.

As one of Australia’s most celebrated young winemakers, Damon Koerner is redefining what Clare Valley & Adelaide Hills wines can be. If you haven’t tried Koerner Wines yet, it’s high time to explore these excellent South Australian vinos.

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
