There are few Australian winemakers that dare to tackle the 'off-dry' wine style made famous from the cool vineyards of Germany and Alsace, France. But Jeffrey Grosset is one of them.
Many years ago, Jeffrey noticed that a particular corridor of the Rockwood Riesling vineyard in Watervale produced much higher natural acidity. Over the next five vintages, he kept this fruit separate, tinkering with different levels of residual sugar, and the balance of picking times to find just the right balance for an off-dry style. He released the first vintage of Alea in 2012.
Since then the wine has gone from strength to strength, becoming an essential part of the Grosset white offerings. A cool bottle of Alea next to a fresh, spicy Asian dish is one of the loveliest combinations in Australian wine.

"Grosset’s Alea Riesling is a super wine nowadays... I don’t roll out the “best ever” slogan very often but I think that this is the best Grosset Alea of the 12 or so vintages that I’ve tasted."
- Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)

"More tonic and pleasing, quinine-like bitterness in juicy lime, red apple, pineapple and gingery flavours, too. Even, balanced, cool fringes and an appealing, transparent glassiness overall."
- Mike Bennie (Halliday Wine Companion)
