Rick Kinzbrunner has seen plenty of vintages up in Beechworth, but the 2024 has the winery confidently claiming a spot on the podium alongside legends like '96, '10 and '21. After a run of wet La Niña years, this season delivered an estate white of incredible stature, but with a distinctly salty, structural edge that sets it apart.

It hits the glass with an immediate sense of gravity, leaning heavily into a savoury, mineral-driven profile. Instead of loud fruit, you get crushed chalk, toasted green almonds, and an almost green olive salinity, with a quiet undercurrent of struck flint as always.

The shape through the mouth is where the real drama happens. It feels incredibly compressed and deliberate, trading on skin-like phenolics and a pulpy texture rather than aggressive acid. It moves with absolute precision, carrying an intense, tight core that promises an incredibly long life ahead.

One of the New World's finest white wines.  Extremely limited.

"There is an undoubted richness, a deep seam of flavour here that ranges long, underscored by firm phenolics and a bright acidity that lifts."

100 points - "Pale medium colour. Exquisite pure grapefruit, apricot, nectarine aromas with underlying marzipan/ flinty notes. Superbly balanced with grapefruit, lime bitters, lemon pastille, nectarine fruits, fine slinky/ chalky textures, underlying grilled nut/ tonic water notes, lovely mid-palate viscosity/ weight and fresh linear and crisp acidity. Ethereal, creamy, and complex with slight al-dente texture lengthening the palate. Absolutely to die for. A magical experience. Beautiful and perfect to drink now but will hold and evolve. Drink now – 2038+" - Andrew Caillard MW (The Vintage Journal)

99 points - "The 2024 Estate Vineyard Chardonnay leads with walnuts and curry leaf, white pepper and wet chalk, pineapple, almond meal and pink grapefruit. It is both fresh and savory, and a thrust of powerful fruit and reduction in concert soar across the palate. The fruit flavors—nutty and citrus-laden, thanks to the P58 Chardonnay clone grown here on the gravel clay soils of the Victorian Alp foothills—linger long through the finish and allow the dissection of flavor, impact and texture to occur over time. This is a remarkable wine, one of incisive focus and attractive width of texture. It has few peers in its execution of style. This vintage is decidedly savory; its aperture of focus zeroed right in on the tension between the acidity, the reduction, the intensely saturated fruit and the phenolic structure. 13.5% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.

In terms of comparison of this 2024 expression to previous vintages, the 2023 was a quiet, floral wine that has, since its release, grown on me and demands not to be overlooked. This 2024 is a bigger, more powerful wine than the 2023. The 2024 is tighter and more structural than the opulent 2022, which showed tremendous width on release and which only seems to be growing in bottle. The 2021 is a standalone wine in terms of bringing all of these elements together in an almost magical way; although having seen that vintage several times over the past few months, it should be, in my opinion, left alone for a few years before coming around to it again. Beyond that, there appears no limit to its life. I'd say this savory 2024 rendition of Giaconda Chardonnay tucks in just behind the 2021 for me in terms of pleasure, structure, length and power. I look forward to watching it further evolve over the coming week.

I was standing in the Giaconda vineyard in January 2024, and despite some intense rain around Central Victoria in the days leading up to my visit, the vineyard (further north) looked superb. It is elevated, well drained and well managed; the crop load looked healthy; and the condition of the berries was excellent. I thought at that time that the 2024 wine would be something to behold. That has played out to be correct." - Erin Larkin (The Wine Advocate)

98 points - "Well well, this is a more savoury and saline expression of Giaconda Chardonnay, and I like that very much. I’m thinking lime, green mango, nectarine, salted almond and pastry dough, a mint and white flower perfume, preserved lemon, and a relatively discreet amount of struck match. It’s juicy, leaning more towards ripe citrus in flavour, again that saline persuasion, and the spiced preserved lemon character is absolutely a theme here, right down to its pulpy texture, which is also gently chalky. Acidity is discreet and fresh, just enough to drive it along, though it’s not abrasive, and the finish is savoury and very long, lemon rind and green olive in the aftertaste, with a gentle pucker of grip to close. This is a calm and composed iteration of this wine, and it feels all just so. Outstanding." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

98 points - "Classic styling meets Beechworth top-shelf chardonnay fruit. Beyond the immediate complexity on show, there is the detail; the '24 moves like a Swiss watch, intricate and exact. Grilled hazelnuts, stone fruits, Meyer lemon, grapefruit pith, melon, smokey spice and clotted cream aromas. There is an undoubted richness, a deep seam of flavour here that ranges long, underscored by firm phenolics and a bright acidity that lifts. Flexes some impressive chardonnay richness while delivering a fine-textured, persistent beauty of a wine. If there is a key to opening Giaconda chardonnay, it is to wait; it is invariably a slow reveal. And don't over chill." - Jeni Port (Halliday Wine Companion)

Following on from the La Niña trinity of 2021-2023 was always going to be a hard gig. Then just when you think you have seen it all, along comes the 2024 chardonnay. Simply stunning. Words cannot do justice to this incredible release of the Estate Vineyard chardonnay. If not the very best, it certainly sits confidently on the podium alongside the likes of 1996, 2010 and 2021!

Giaconda

There are few names in Australian wine as revered as those of Giaconda and its founder/owner, Rick Kinzbrunner. Since 1982, Rick has dedicated himself to the pursuit of vinous excellence in the Beechworth region.

A lover of great Burgundy, Kinzbrunner is best-known for his incredibly powerful Chardonnay, with Roussanne, Pinot Noir and Nebbiolo not far behind. His signature winemaking style shows a rare combination of power and finesse - many believe his to be one of the few New World Chardonnays that can compare to the great Grand Crus of Burgundy.

For the Estate wines, production is extremely limited, and they generally sell out upon release. Giaconda is a special producer that thoroughly deserves its reputation as one of the country's finest domains.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
