Description

"We love Sangiovese above all other grape varieties. There... we said it... As good as lunch wine gets we reckon, and who doesn't love a wine at lunch!"
- Gareth Belton (Winemaker)

This range of wines (formerly known as Village) from Gareth and Rainbo Belton really are something else. A nice step up for the seaweed couple, with a more serious expression of an already outstanding brand.

A variety that's a bit uncommon in the hills despite its suitability for the region, this Sangiovese is simply sublime. A truly elegant wine, full of blue fruit, framed by chewy tannins with tonnes of development potential in the bottle. Gareth is positively obsessed with the variety and it may well be his favourite variety to make.

So much potential with this wine, it’s one of the wines in the range that we’re most excited to see evolve over the next few years.

"This is outright delicious. It’s a beautiful drink: savoury, fruity, juicy, smoky, taut and easy-going at once. It’s one of those wines where you pick it up and think: this person really gets sangiovese. It’s polished, pippy and pretty. I love it. I’m scoring this 93 but even higher would be entirely reasonable."

Bright red fruit, violets, fresh plums, Tuscan herbs and pomegranates on the nose. The palate is tightly wound, with firmly framed yet refined tannins and fine acidity. A really delicious, structured yet balanced sangiovese, full of fruit and texture. Drink or hold.

Jubey, juicy and delicious. Tart and puckery cherry pip, dusty tannins, summery tomato broth and something mineral and graphite-led find pace at the brisk finish. Uncomplicated and dangerously easy to drink. The luncheon table is set with this wine poured.

    Can't go wrong

Fantastic Range form a great producer

“We love Sangiovese above all other grape varieties. There… we said it. It’s just magic up here—puckering acidity, dusty tannins, and flavor for days. It’s Adelaide Hills, sure, but it’s a clear comparison to the Old World. As good as lunch wine gets, we reckon, and who doesn’t love a wine at lunch!”

Gentle Folk

Gareth and Rainbo Belton are the Gentle Folks, both in name and in sensibility. They are gentle, soulful people, both originally seaweed experts, who turned their hands to farming grapes with an organic and sustainable approach. Today they are crafting some of the most legitimately exciting and exceptional Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in the Adelaide Hills and are firmly rooted in the upper echelon of Australia's lo-fi wine scene.

Their wines cover multiple sub-regions across the Adelaide Hills. There are no additions during the winemaking process, save for a splash of SO2 at bottling to keep the wines pristine as they travel from the Beltons' home to yours. The worlds of fine wine and natural wine collide in the Gentle Folk range. They are beautiful people making increasingly breathtaking wines that you definitely want to check out.
