Description

Increasingly, Chardonnay is becoming the star variety in the Gentle Folk range, with Gareth Belton producing some of the most thrilling examples of the variety in the Adelaide Hills.

The Gentle Folk Chardonnay (formerly known as Village) is a composite blend of all the Chardonnay sites farmed by Gareth and Rainbo. It's a representation of the region and the season and beautifully balanced on release.

It sees exceptional flavour development in the fruit across the sites, with sufficient tannin to lend structure and pure, racy acidity as the backbone.

It's not a flashy Chardonnay but it is inherently complex and stunning to drink.

"There’s a squeakiness to this wine, and a cleanliness, and yet it’s characterful and well sustained. That’s the wines of Gentle Folk in a nutshell. Apple, brine, custard apples, sweet spice and a subtle honey-like note. There’s a chalky/pebbly character to the finish, and a touch of grip there too. It’s pretty much gorgeous, all told."

This has a lovely core of fruit with aromas of minerals, grilled lemons, salted nuts, white flowers and flint. The palate is mid-weighted and textural, with bright acidity and a slight phenolic grip in the saline finish. Nicely constructed. Drink or hold. Screw cap.

Gentle Folk

Gareth and Rainbo Belton are the Gentle Folks, both in name and in sensibility. They are gentle, soulful people, both originally seaweed experts, who turned their hands to farming grapes with an organic and sustainable approach. Today they are crafting some of the most legitimately exciting and exceptional Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in the Adelaide Hills and are firmly rooted in the upper echelon of Australia's lo-fi wine scene.

Their wines cover multiple sub-regions across the Adelaide Hills. There are no additions during the winemaking process, save for a splash of SO2 at bottling to keep the wines pristine as they travel from the Beltons' home to yours. The worlds of fine wine and natural wine collide in the Gentle Folk range. They are beautiful people making increasingly breathtaking wines that you definitely want to check out.
