Description

This is the top of the mountain in Craggy Range land, their finest Bordeaux Blend from the very best fruit harvested from the famous Gimblett Gravels vineyard.

It's a wine of incredible power and prestige, comparable with any of the top wines in this style from the 'New-World'.

The thing that sets Sophia apart is the smooth, luxurious palate derived from insane attention to detail in the winery. Sophia has its own room in the Craggy Range underground cellar. An entire room purpose built for crafting this wine. In classic Craggy Range style, no stone is left unturned when in pursuit of excellence.

96 points
"Vital elements of redcurrant, floral and tangy freshness to balance the power and density on display. One for the long haul, yet it should be approachable on the earlier side, if desired, especially if oak doesn't bother you. Serious stuff.
- Stephen Wong (The Real Review)

96 points - "Packed with dense layers of blackberry, blackcurrant, truffle, leather and smoky oak, this brooding and backward red is seriously concentrated and structured. Very submerged yet firm, structural tannins provide a framework for the intense and long flavours of black fruit, olive, cocoa and warm earth to unfold over the impressive finish. A seam of vibrant acidity runs right through the wine, carrying more vital elements of redcurrant, floral and tangy freshness to balance the power and density on display. One for the long haul, yet it should be approachable on the earlier side, if desired, especially if oak doesn't bother you. Serious stuff." - Stephen Wong (The Real Review)

95+ points - "Plum, black fruit, pencil, purple flowers, aromatic and spicy, a bit of roast red capsicum. Medium to full-bodied, plump and flavoursome but corralled by a mesh of pencilly and gavelly tannin, pulls into some red fruit on the palate, and finishes with excellent length, a savoury tobacco flourish to close. So impressive. Could be 96 points really." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

95 points - "I tell you what, these 2024 Gimblett Gravel wines are pretty damn impressive. Deeply coloured with a dark crimson edge, this exceptional blend (79/14/7% merlot/cabernet franc/cabernet sauvignon) opens with complex aromas of doris plum, blackberry, black cherry, tobacco leaf and cedar. The plush, expansive mid-palate delivers rich chocolate, warm earth and pastis tones, enlivened by bright acidity. With its bed of compact, powdered-gravel tannins, the wine exhibits impressive power and architectural focus. The velvety, sustained finish and intrinsic structural elements promise an extended trajectory in the cellar over the next 20 years." - Dave Brookes (Halliday Wine Companion)

94 points - "A well-made Bordeaux blend with black currant, chocolate and light coffee bean undertones. It’s medium-bodied with polish and candor showing the quality of the merlot and cabernets in the stone soils of Gimblett Gravels. Pretty now but would improve with age. Drink or hold. Screw cap." - James Suckling

A refined and elegant hand-crafted merlot dominant blend that represents both the vigneron's art and inherent understanding of the land, ensuring 'Sophia' is the finest expression of the terroir and the people.

'Sophia', meaning 'wisdom' in greek mythology, pays tribute to the goddess of knowledge and experience, information and understanding - a philosophy adopted by our winemakers and viticulturists when creating this wine.

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
