Description

"Aroha", translated from the Māori language, means "Love".

This wine is winemaker Ben Tombs' love letter to the Pinot Noir grape. It's crafted from Craggy Range's two finest parcels of Pinot Noir fruit and is treated with the utmost care and attention every step of the winemaking process.

The fruit is picture perfect when it enters the winery. Around half of the fruit ferments as whole bunches giving the wine excellent architecture and a hint of stalky spice. The destemmed fruit gives the wine a seductive silkiness that will make you swoon.

This sits in the top echelon of all Pinot Noir in the Martinborough region.

"Very long with a melting mouthfeel and great intensity, this impressive, modern expression of pinot noir is going to go the distance, richly rewarding those with the willpower to wait. Grand vin."
- Stephen Wong (The Real Review)

"Dark cherry, spice, lots of perfume, hazelnut chocolate... Complexity and layers here. A lovely wine."
- Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

97 points - "Deep ruby with a hint of purple. Concentrated yet defined aromas of black raspberry, cherry and violet with an undercoat of cinnamon oak. There is a strictness here which comes from youth. The palate is densely concentrated and firmly structured but already displays a cornucopia of fruit and spice. Very long with a melting mouthfeel and great intensity, this impressive, modern expression of pinot noir is going to go the distance, richly rewarding those with the willpower to wait. Grand vin." - Stephen Wong (The Real Review)

95+ points - "Dark cherry, spice, lots of perfume, hazelnut chocolate. Medium-bodied, a smooth grain and grip to tannin, somewhat dense and chocolaty, but still has fragrance wafting through it, acidity is balanced, and it closes long. Complexity and layers here. A lovely wine." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

95 points - "Mellow, medium–fuller weight, fine-tuned and fancy-feeling. A pinot noir of inward concentration. Dark cherry, dark plum, cola, panforte, woody spices, faint mintiness, white pepper. Lots of character here, all squished away in a compact, lengthy frame. Plenty of finesse." - Mike Bennie (Halliday Wine Companion)

95 points - "A pinot noir with a backbone of fine tannins that give it freshness and form. It’s medium-bodied with dried strawberry and raspberry and orange undertones. Firm and silky texture with a tight finish. Drink or hold. Screw cap." - James Suckling

95 points - "Grown on a narrow band of clay over stone in the Te Muna Vineyard, from vines now over 25 years old, this blends two clones picked five days apart — Clone 667, fermented with 85% whole clusters, and Clone 114 from Prestige Block 16, part-fermented in sandstone amphora. Both were hand-picked and wild-fermented, then aged for 14 months in French oak barriques. The perfume opens with lashings of dark berries, cherry conserve, plum, blackberry, boysenberry, stemmy spice, a touch of cacao nib and white chocolate. It’s dark and brooding, but not at the expense of Pinot charm and fragrance. Some time in the glass reveals clove and forest floor, with the fruit unfurling to add vibrancy and fill out the palate. It’s sapid and dense in the mouth, with a coating of flavours mirroring the nose, all wrapped in firm, chalk-dust tannins and fresh acidity. The finish holds bitter cacao-nib tones as it carries to a very long length. This shape shifts in the glass on account of its nervous youth, but once it settles, you’re in for a ride. There’s complexity now, but also the structure, oak influence and fruit power to age in the longer term." - Tom Kline (Wine Pilot)

Aroha is a romantic word in the Maori language of New Zealand meaning love. Reflective of its namesake, Aroha is handcrafted with passion from two unique parcels of Pinot Noir, including one of the legendary Abel clone. The fruit is grown on a slope of an elevate terrace of fertile land at the Te Muna Road vineyard where an ancient dried river bed delivered nutrient rich soil perfect for growing Pinot Noir.

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
