Description

ChaLou has quickly become one of the most exciting names out of Orange, and Riesling is right at the heart of what they do well. The 2024 vintage shows the region’s cool climate in full flight - bright citrus and green apple at the core, with floral lift and a fine mineral edge.

It’s made in an off-dry style, wild-fermented at cool temperatures then stopped early to retain just a touch of natural sweetness. That hint of residual sugar balances the racy acidity perfectly, giving the wine both freshness and a lovely sense of texture.

This is Riesling that feels effortless - lively, precise, and delicious from the first sip, yet detailed enough to keep you coming back for another glass. And for the quality in the bottle, it’s fantastic value.

    Wow

    I'm more the GG Riesling type but my father in law absolute loves this wine. A hint of Citrus sweetness. Therefore I'm in love too. Will buy plenty more. Highly recommended.

    Great Riesling

    I can’t manage whites that are too acidic and I ding this Riesling perfect. Bonus that it’s produced in Orange by a great new wine maker.

Tasting Notes: An off-dry style with a vibrant aroma. Fresh lemon peel and lifted white florals, hints orange blossom and tangerine peel. Detailed fine boned palate with juicy driving acidity.

Food: Scallop Ceviche with mango and avocado salsa

Song Choice: Young- Vallis Alps

Cellaring: Drinking beautifully +10-15years

Vineyard: ChaLou, Orange. N.S.W

Soil: Ordovician material approximately 460million years old. It contains basic volcanic material; sandstone, siltstone breccia and conglomerate derived from basalt and andesite.

Season: An early budburt in October with a warm dry start to the growing season, follower by mild temperatures throughout January with grapes being picked mid Febuary.

Winemaking Notes:

Picked in the cool of the morning before whole bunch pressing

Gentle extraction to ensure low phenolics.

Fermented at cooler temperatures <14C with wild yeast.

Ferment was arrested with some residual sugar to obtain off-dry style balancing sugar with taut acidity.
