Description

From their high-altitude vineyards in Orange, ChaLou are proving they’ve got the touch with Pinot Noir. The 2024 is all about bright, juicy red fruits - think cherry and cranberry - with a savoury thread of spice and dried herbs that gives it extra interest.

The fruit was hand-picked and wild-fermented, with a portion of whole bunches bringing perfume and lift. It then spent some time in French oak, mostly older barrels, which rounds out the palate without clouding the fruit. The tannins are fine and gentle, the finish clean and lively.

What makes this stand out is how much detail and drinkability you get for the price. It’s Pinot that feels unforced, delicious, and properly satisfying - great value for anyone chasing a smart cool-climate red without spending big.

40% whole bunch and remaining whole berry. Matured in 10% new French oak. Some deep tones of black fig and Bing cherries. A push of violet and lavender spice that works well with its treat bag of spices. There is crushed beetle, poppy seed and star anise. Turned potting soil and porcini mushroom. The bunch element manages to dial up the extract, providing quite a sinewy tannin palate. This has muscle as well as finesse. Think along the lines of a kick-ass pilates trainer. A wine to watch.

Best Pinot from Orange I've tried so far!

Amazing value! Fresh and bright, with an array of red fruits balanced by silky tannins and the right amount of acidity. Layered on the mid palate with a moreish aftertaste.
