Description

Cincuenta y Cinco comes from vines planted in 1955 on the alluvial plains of the Río Negro Valley — a mix of sand, pebbles and silt laid down by Andean meltwater. The vineyard is farmed organically and biodynamically, with all fruit picked by hand.

Fermentation is 100% whole cluster at cool temperatures, which lifts the perfume and keeps the palate fine and taut. Maturation is split between concrete tanks and seasoned French oak, so the emphasis stays firmly on purity of fruit and the character of the site.

This is one of Chacra’s most precise and mineral expressions — bright red and blue fruit, floral lift, and a stony, gravelly backbone that’s unmistakably tied to the vineyard. It’s light on its feet but has real persistence and detail, making it a strong candidate for short- to medium-term cellaring.

A benchmark for Pinot Noir in Patagonia, and a clear window into one of the region’s great old-vine sites.

97 points - "Extremely aromatic, with very floral aromas of lavender, violets, peaches and citrus blossoms. It’s medium-bodied with firm and crunchy tannins. Structured and solid as a rock. Only 11% alcohol. Magic. Drink now. Why wait?" - JamesSuckling.com

96+ points - "The 2024 Cincuenta y Cinco was sourced from vines planted in 1955 on sand-dominated soils with silt and a small amount of clay content. It offers a hauntingly multidimensional expression of the Chacra project with a weightless allure that sets it apart within an impressive roster of wines. It opens with a detailed, blue-fruited nose radiating violet and rose petal aromas with an undercurrent of turned earth. The palate deftly balances a sleek, suave profile with nimble energy and palpable grace, effortlessly transitioning into a long, nuanced, ethereal finish whose complexity and dimension dramatically juxtaposes its slender frame. While I feel the Treinta y Dos bottling offers a slightly more complete expression of the Chacra project, this is a spectacular example of Patagonian Pinot Noir and one to measure others against." - Matthew Luczy (The Wine Advocate)

95+ points - "Cherry, dried herbs, some darkness, black tea, spice and cardamom pod, a floral thing, orange peel. It’s light to medium-bodied, very mineral, redcurrant and strawberry, some blackcurrant, fine dusty tannin, cracked black pepper, a fine finish of excellent length. So finely-etched and bright. Frisky. Delightful. Crisp. Such a good wine. Slate. Touch and go for 96 points really." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

Cincuenta y Cinco comes from vineyards planted in 1955 which gently rest on a sea of pebbles, typical in riverbed soils. It is fermented whole cluster at very low temperatures, enhancing the floral characteristics of the wine. Cincuenta y Cinco has the highest amount of tension of all the Chacra wines while it still retains a comfortable ease. There is a wonderful purity in this wine with dried strawberry and iodine. This refined red mixes crushed bilberry and cherry fruit with undertones of smoke, game and mineral. A fine length.

Bodega Chacra

Bodega Chacra is located in the Rio Negro Valley of northern Patagonia, in the dead centre of Argentina.

Founded in 2003 by Piero Incisa della Rocchetta - the grandson of Marchese Mario Incisa della Rocchetta, creator of Sassacaia, one of the monuments of Italian wine. After trying a Patagonian Pinot at a tasting in NYC, Piero began searching for site in the Rio Negro region, a search that bore fruit in the Mainque area. He took over a site with ungrafted vines dating back to 1932, and the development of a world class winery too shape, with a focus on organic and biodynamic viticulture.

He brought legendary Meursault producer Jean-Marc Roulot on board to aid in the planting and vinification of Chardonnay - not a bad advisor! Piero's dedication to producing outstanding Pinot Noir and Chardonnay was rewarded when Chacra Treinta y Dos Pinot 2018 was named Best Wine in the World by James Suckling.
