Description

Clare Valley Malbec blends have a quiet but well-documented history, and Adelina's Springfarm estate is one of the better arguments for it. At 460 metres on red sandy loam over slate and clay, with ACO certified organic farming and a lot of hand attention, this is a site that produces reds of real character and without pretention.

The blend is 75% Shiraz and 25% Malbec, drawn from younger blocks planted between 2012 and 2017. Shiraz and Malbec were co-fermented in concrete before 13 months in large-format French oak (20% new), keeping things relatively restrained on the oak influence and letting the fruit and tannin do the talking, as is Col's wine.

It's a medium-bodied, fresh style of Clare red: fragrant and bright rather than heavy, with fine, grippy tannin and a good savoury edge through the finish. The Malbec adds some darker fruit and structure without pulling it out of shape. Drinks well now and an exceptionally priced gateway into the wonderful world of Adelina.

"This is an intriguing wine, one that I like so much more for drinking—as it should be."

"Another testament to the divinely anointed idea that Clare reds thrive with some malbec in them. Unbelievable value."
- Nick Ryan (The Weekend Australian)

94 points - "Aromatically, the wine leads with redcurrants and pomegranate molasses, pink peppercorn and rose petals. The palate is far silkier and finer than perhaps I expected. There are aspects of the aromas that send me down a more corporeal/earthy/meaty sort of path, while the reality is far brighter, shinier and more floral than that. This is an intriguing wine, one that I like so much more for drinking—as it should be. The tannins are tightly knit and lingering. 14% alcohol, sealed under screw cap." - Erin Larkin (The Wine Advocate)

94 points - "Younger plantings speak to the special nature of this site and its ability to express itself. Ripe plums, dried cherry, violet, licorice. Precise and focused, no bulging at the sides. Energy and momentum; it retains tension and drive across the plate. Taut, shaley tannins. Another testament to the divinely anointed idea that Clare reds thrive with some malbec in them. Unbelievable value." - Nick Ryan (The Weekend Australian)

92 points - "Adelina’s Col McBryde is a master of tannin. All of his red wines seem unashamedly tannic in a beautifully integrated and harmonious way. This wine shows a touch too much coffeed oak, or at least its coffeed oak influence is clear, even if there isn’t a great deal of it. But the progression of the mid-weight palate, the cherry-plum-and-smoked-earth flavours, and the mint, plum and coffee flavours through the finish are all tied together by the impressive press of dry, film-grain tannin. Yes please to this. This drinks like a charm." - Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)

92 points - "Easy-drinking super-slurper kinda vibes. Sloshy, red and black berry fruitiness, some plummy notes, a touch of licorice, some vanilla and clove spice notes. A bit of grippy, gritty tannin, too. It's pitch-perfect guzzling gear and does a good trick of marrying the varieties with interest and balance." - Mike Bennie (Halliday Wine Companion)

Adelina

Adelina Wines, established by Jennie Gardner and Col McBryde, is situated in the Springfarm Valley of Clare Valley. With vineyards dating back to 1910, the estate includes Shiraz, Grenache, Mataro, Malbec, and a unique field blend. Col and Jennie, both PhDs in microbiology, have transformed the vineyard with organic farming methods, achieving certification in 2020.

Their wines are known for delicacy, purity, and terroir expression, featuring old vine Shiraz and Mataro, exceptional Nebbiolo, and vibrant Rieslings. The 80-year-old Grenache vines produce fine-boned, high-toned wines, while the Shiraz showcases bold flavors and impressive tannins.

Sustainability is central to their approach, with minimal water use, manual weeding, and maintaining native scrub. They are also pursuing carbon-neutral certification. Adelina Wines embodies quality and innovation, offering wines that reflect their unique terroir and sustainable practices.

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
