Description

The 2024 Polish Hill River Riesling from Adelina is a laid-back but seriously good expression of one of Australia’s best-known spots for the variety. Sourced from a vineyard planted in 2000 on classic Clare loam and limestone, it shows off all the clarity and lift you’d expect from the region—but with a bit of extra personality.

Made with a light hand - cool-picked, gently pressed and fermented dry - it leans more savoury than showy. There's a fine, chalky texture running through it, with bright citrus and just enough edge to keep things interesting. It’s not trying to reinvent the wheel, just doing the simple things well.

Though Col and Jennie McBryde farm organically on their estate, this fruit comes from trusted growers nearby, and the collaboration just works. It’s a wine that feels relaxed in its skin - quietly complex, refreshingly dry, and great drinking.

"Gin, lime and tonic, wet martini, green olive and sea spray… Nutty, savoury edge with chew and chalky texture. Ultra-refreshing, vibrant and distinct with supreme drinkability."
- Mike Bennie (Halliday Wine Companion)

"Roses, juniper, green olive, lime and rind… Nutty, savoury, with chalky grip, green apple and citrus… A quinine-laced finish of good length. Different, but very good."
- Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

94 points - "A beautifully formed riesling here, quite a lot of gin, lime and tonic and wet martini characters, right through to brined green olive and sea spray. Licks of nuttiness amongst this, too, lending a savoury edge. Good chew and chalkiness to texture. Building all this together you get an ultra-refreshing, vibrant and distinct riesling of supreme drinkability and interest." - Mike Bennie (Halliday Wine Companion)

94 points - "Vibrant aromas of lemon peel, slate, gunsmoke, white flowers and talc. The palate is laser-focused with a racy acidity and generous texture just waiting to unravel with time in bottle. The lovely citrus- and mineral-driven finish has a slightly salty aftertaste. Delicious. Drink or hold. Screw cap." - JamesSuckling.com

93 points - "Smells a bit like a bunch of roses, juniper and green olive, lime and lime rind. It’s a more savoury style, slightly nutty, with a light chalky grip, green apple and citrus, a light tang to acidity, and a quinine-laced finish of good length. A bit different, but very good. Holds your interest from start to finish." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

93 points - "The 2024 Obstgarten T Riesling is lean and austere, with white flowers and candlewax, crushed shells and white pepper. In the mouth, the wine shows a satisfying plumpness akin to getting a good fresh oyster—briny and creamy. There's plenty of phenolic presence here but with alpine-fresh acidity. The Riesling is from a single vineyard near the Whitfield township in the King Valley. 12% alcohol, sealed under screw cap." - Erin Larkin (The Wine Advocate)

Adelina

Adelina Wines, established by Jennie Gardner and Col McBryde, is situated in the Springfarm Valley of Clare Valley. With vineyards dating back to 1910, the estate includes Shiraz, Grenache, Mataro, Malbec, and a unique field blend. Col and Jennie, both PhDs in microbiology, have transformed the vineyard with organic farming methods, achieving certification in 2020.

Their wines are known for delicacy, purity, and terroir expression, featuring old vine Shiraz and Mataro, exceptional Nebbiolo, and vibrant Rieslings. The 80-year-old Grenache vines produce fine-boned, high-toned wines, while the Shiraz showcases bold flavors and impressive tannins.

Sustainability is central to their approach, with minimal water use, manual weeding, and maintaining native scrub. They are also pursuing carbon-neutral certification. Adelina Wines embodies quality and innovation, offering wines that reflect their unique terroir and sustainable practices.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
