Description

Forty percent of this blend comes off vines planted in 1915, making it one of the older Shiraz-Mataro combinations in Clare Valley. Col McBryde and Jennie Gardner farm all three blocks organically at Springfarm, and the century-old vines give the wine a depth and complexity that the younger parcels alone couldn't provide.

Each block was picked and fermented separately in concrete, with skin contact ranging from 16 to 31 days depending on the parcel. The Mataro saw the longest time on skins before everything came together in large-format French oak (25% new) for 16 months.

This is a lithe, even-flowing red with refined tannin and real length, rather than the heavy, extracted style you might be used to from the region. There's dark fruit, savoury complexity and good depth, but the overall impression is elegance rather than density.

A beautifully unique wine, and startling value.

"This is so good. Shiraz Mataro from this part of the world has tremendous provenance, and this wine comes highly recommended. "Gorgeous" is a word I've uttered a few times while tasting this."
- Erin Larkin (The Wine Advocate)

"As good a union of these regular bedfellows as you could hope to see... a wine with a beautifully even flow and glide."
- Nick Ryan (The Weekend Australian)

96 points - "Aromatically, the wine leads with red rose petals and apples, dark berry fruits and exotic spices. The palate is silky and delicious; the tannins are velvety but open enough to get a handle on, while the fruit is plush and composed. It is an immediately impressive wine upon first sip, and this feeling extends through the long finish. This is so good. Shiraz Mataro from this part of the world has tremendous provenance, and this wine comes highly recommended. "Gorgeous" is a word I've uttered a few times while tasting this. 14% alcohol, sealed under screw cap." - Erin Larkin (The Wine Advocate)

96 points - "As good a union of these regular bedfellows as you could hope to see. Dark berries, cocoa, quince paste, a dried floral arrangement in a coal scuttle. A lithe and linear frame, depth without density, a wine with a beautifully even flow and glide. Crushed chalk tannins, sinewy and deft." - Nick Ryan (The Weekend Australian)

94 points - "Saltbush, iodine and green olive characters run through plum, earth, leather and orange rind. This is a medium weight wine with integrated-but-assertive tannin, a sheeted impression to the (long) finish, character aplenty and the fruit to match. It’s a wine of momentum but then too it’s a wine of strings and muscle. Truth be told, it’s a fantastic wine, and startling value." - Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)

93 points - "A generous perfume and similarly so to taste. Lush, ripe red cherry, raspberry, sweet spice, light milk chocolate notes, a touch of aniseed, faint game meat and some truffle notes. It's easy on the palate in its slick of texture and trill of fine, stony tannin to finish. A little minty, alpine herb in there, too. Very approachable and flavoursome." - Mike Bennie (Halliday Wine Companion)

Adelina

Adelina Wines, established by Jennie Gardner and Col McBryde, is situated in the Springfarm Valley of Clare Valley. With vineyards dating back to 1910, the estate includes Shiraz, Grenache, Mataro, Malbec, and a unique field blend. Col and Jennie, both PhDs in microbiology, have transformed the vineyard with organic farming methods, achieving certification in 2020.

Their wines are known for delicacy, purity, and terroir expression, featuring old vine Shiraz and Mataro, exceptional Nebbiolo, and vibrant Rieslings. The 80-year-old Grenache vines produce fine-boned, high-toned wines, while the Shiraz showcases bold flavors and impressive tannins.

Sustainability is central to their approach, with minimal water use, manual weeding, and maintaining native scrub. They are also pursuing carbon-neutral certification. Adelina Wines embodies quality and innovation, offering wines that reflect their unique terroir and sustainable practices.

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
