Description

Gewurztraminer is renowned for its aromatics, so using some skin contact is a great way to intensify them. This one from Gus Vinden does just that.

Two parcels of grapes were treated differently in the winery, with varying degrees of skin contact and fermentation in different vessels, including clay amphorae, French oak and stainless steel.

As you can imagine, the phenolics and aromas are pretty intense. Blossom, citrus, nuts, a bit of funkiness, but lots of fun, with a full mouthfeel and bright flavours. Truly an interesting take on Gewurz, but of course we'd expect that from Vinden.

one of the most unique and captivating skin contact gewurztraminers!

Simply incredible phenolic and aromatic componets to it. Like drinking rose water with some faint hints of nectarines and stone fruits. Really beautiful stuff, Ive got a bunch cellared.

The 22 vintage is more floral aromatic then the 23 in my opinion while the 23 had more diversity of flavour.

Cracking wine from a great young gun, 5/5 all day

    Galloping Gewurztraminer

Absolutely fabulous wine with great flavours and a dry finish to life.

This Gewürztraminer was sourced from our Somerset Vineyard. This dry grown block was planted in 2004 on red volcanic clay soil, over weathered limestone. The wine comprises two different components- the first spent five days on skins before being pressed off to a Spanish clay amphorae and neutral French oak. The second spent 36 hours on skins before being pressed and fermented on solids in the tank.

Vinden Estate

Angus Vinden, the dynamic young winemaker of Vinden Wines, is redefining this beloved Hunter Valley winery. Taking over from his father a few years ago, Angus has infused fresh energy into the family label, producing exciting, modern wines that are garnering attention from the country's leading wine scribes.

He focuses on the Hunter Valley's classic Semillon and Shiraz, excelling with Tempranillo and even Chenin Blanc while exploring these varieties with a creativity and flair rarely seen in the region. Angus expanded the estate with the purchase of the historic Somerset Vineyard, a vineyard with a storied past, having provided the fruit for some of the region’s most acclaimed wines over the last 50+ years. It is a very good thing for the region that this iconic site is now in Gus' hands.

Vinden Wines is a vibrant blend of tradition and innovation, making it hands down one of the Hunter Valley's most exciting up-and-coming labels.
