Description

Gentle winemaking is the hallmark of Natallie Johnston, one of the most exciting young producers to come out of a place that just keeps on introducing us to exciting talent; the Yarra Valley.

From the northern part of the valley comes this lovely balanced Chardonnay. A thoughtful wine, some native ferments, some inoculation, bit of old oak, bit of new oak. Tillie had a clear idea of what she wanted to craft with this wine, while at the same time letting the fruit speak.

Crisp, spicy, nutty and savoury, this is a really interesting and delicious wine, which ticks a lot of boxes.

"This is both delicate and complex with its aromas of pear skin, pink grapefruit and subtle marine scents. There's more mid-palate intensity than last year's version, and I like the touch of grip on the balanced and long finale."
- Philip Rich (Halliday Wine Companion)

95 points - "From the Rising vineyard near St Andrews. Natural fermentation and maturation in French barriques (20% new), no mlf. An attractive bright green gold. 95 points - "From the Rising Vineyard in St Andrews. 20% new oak.

White peach, sea spray, a kiss of spicy oak, and some floral top notes. It’s juicy in white peach with ripe grapefruit to temper, some silky gloss and vanilla wafer richness, cut with bright acidity and particularly pleasing fine chalky texture. The finish is long and bright, and a little bit savoury too. Gee, this is a very nice wine, and it’s lovely to drink." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

    Delicate but not shy

This wine has classic chardie fruit but Yarra drive and length. Hard to find both. The key thinkg though is this a delicate, beautiful expression of cool climate chardonnay

    A great value chardonnay!

A great value drop that delivers a lovely expression of Yarra Valley chardonnay.

Fresh grapefruit pith, white peach and jasmine on the nose. Glassy white tannin and driving acidity with intense concentration. Stone fruit continues on the palate with a subtle hint of creamy oak on the finish.

Tillie J

Natillie Johnston, also known as Tillie J, developed her passion for wine while working for cellar doors in the Yarra Valley to support her studies in Sports Science. After completing her degree, she transitioned into the wine-making industry, starting with her first harvest at Coldstream Hills Wines in 2012. Her fascination with wine culture blossomed, leading her to pursue postgraduate studies in winemaking and viticulture at the University of Melbourne.

Throughout her career, Natillie has gained experience in various wine regions across Australia and abroad, including Margaret River, the Hunter Valley, Oregon, Germany, Canada, and New Zealand. Working alongside esteemed winemakers, she honed her craft and forged lasting friendships.

Natillie's dream of starting her own wine label in the Yarra Valley became a reality when she was accepted into the "2019 Young Winemakers" program at No.7 Healesville. This opportunity enabled her to launch Tillie J Wines. Her goal is to create wines that authentically reflect their terroir, enjoyable in their youth or after maturation, and she's gaining plenty of traction. As stated in the Halliday Wine Companion... "Mark my words. Tillie Johnston is going to become a great winemaker.
