Peter Schell and Magali Gely have spent over two decades proving that Barossa reds don't need to be heavy blockbusters to be taken seriously. Under their Spinifex label, Schell has become one of the region's undisputed masters of Grenache, consistently teasing out the grape's natural energy rather than hammering it into submission.
The Garçon serves as a pigeon pair to their benchmark Syrah, operating as a tribute to the Barossa's deep viticultural roots. The fruit is pulled entirely by hand from four dry-grown parcels spread across the valley, with vine ages ranging from thirty-five right up to a century old.
In the cellar, the approach is extremely tactile but low-intervention. The fruit sees a healthy dose of whole bunches during a slow, wild ferment across concrete and stainless steel, managed with gentle foot-stomping and pump-overs. It then spends eight months resting on light lees in a mix of steel vats, seasoned 600-litre demi-muids, and a massive 2,500-litre foudre before being bottled completely unfined and unfiltered.
This vintage leans hard into freshness, trading thick extraction for a high-toned floral perfume and a tart snap of forest berries. Sandy tannins and a crunchy, taut acidity keep everything tightly wound and dangerously easy to drink. It is genuinely baffling how they manage to deliver old-vine Barossa character of this calibre at this price.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.
Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.
What that means for you:
- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate
Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.
