Description

Scotchmans Hill has long been the reference point for Geelong Pinot, and the estate bottling always captures the region’s savoury, structured style. The 2023 season was relatively mild and steady, which allowed for slow, even ripening and fruit with plenty of perfume and balance.

The fruit comes from the estate vineyards on the Bellarine Peninsula, with hand-picking, wild fermentation and time in French oak shaping the wine. There’s a clear focus on expression over polish – you get the character of site first, with oak and winemaking sitting quietly in the background.

Expect a Pinot with a bit more depth and structure than you’d see out of Yarra or Mornington. It shows plenty of red fruit and spice, but it’s the earthy, savoury backbone that makes it so unmistakably Geelong. This is built to drink well now with food, but there’s enough grip and shape here to reward a few years in the cellar.

All estate-grown fruit and fermented with 15% whole bunches. A light, bright cherry red. Understated with aromas of red fruits, pressed flowers and a little spice. The palate is deceptive in that, while it's delicately framed and very well balanced, there's also more than enough underlying tannin to suggest this will continue to open up and blossom in the bottle over the next five or so years.

A complex and alluring bouquet of red plums and dark berries with spice, sweet sappy notes, and refined oak complexity. The palate is juicy and long with raspberries, plums, and sweet cherries. This is complemented by spice, earthy notes with a sappy mid palate and cedar oak finish. The all-round structure of the wine is seamless with silky tannins delivering a beautiful balanced wine.
