Description

When Steve Pannell acquired the Little Branch vineyard in Blewitt Springs in 2021, he rolled up his sleeves and pruned the ancient, dry-grown bush vines back into balance himself.

The Sunrise block sits on sand over ironstone, catching the early morning warmth. The '100' on the label marks a milestone: a full century of harvests off these century-old vines. This is the second release from this single block. It's another absolute beauty.

Fermented in a huge old oak vat with whole berries, it's the slightly lighter of the two single-block Grenaches. Long ropes of tannin on cherry and rosehip, Campari, walls of spice - it's a phenomenal wine of world-class quality.

We reckon this is a benchmark release that is amongst the best wines ever made by this McLaren Vale master.

98 points
"It’s a wine of many layers, so closely serried that they are initially easy to miss. That compression, the complex weave of tannin, the vibrant drive of acid all mark this as a wine that will age spectacularly."
- Marcus Ellis (Halliday Wine Companion)

"This is a brooding grenache that still begs for time to reveal itself fully, and really responds to decanting and breathing. Magnificent wine, with solid ageing potential."
- Huon Hooke (The Real Review)
97+ points
"Cherry, raspberry, rose petals, assorted spices, cardamom in particular, but such beautiful and beguiling aromatics here... acidity is fresh, and the finish is ‘minerally’ and incredibly long, with a little fennel and rose closing it out. Nuts good."
- Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

98 points - "The second release from this home vineyard in Blewitt Springs. The 100 here references 100 years of vintages from these vines (omitting the fledgling unproductive years). All destemmed fruit, old oak, frugal quantities. This sits in a moodier, brooding zone – refined and unadorned, though – with dark red fruits corded into a structure of assertive natural tannin and energetic acidity. Air reveals dried cranberry and cherry, raspberry leaf tea, subdued souk spices, tobacco leaf, rusted iron, dried rose, bergamot, a brooding malty note, like dark rye bread. It’s a wine of many layers, so closely serried that they are initially easy to miss. That compression, the complex weave of tannin, the vibrant drive of acid all mark this as a wine that will age spectacularly." - Marcus Ellis (Halliday Wine Companion)

98 points - "Excellent deep, bright red-purple colour. Reserved aromas of dark chocolate, darker fruits in the background, a lacing of dried herbs overlying it, growing more and more fragrant and detailed as it aired. The wine is full-bodied and firmly concentrated, with a density and grip that protein-rich food would easily accommodate. Great concentration with great balance. This is a brooding grenache that still begs for time to reveal itself fully, and really responds to decanting and breathing. Magnificent wine, with solid ageing potential." - Huon Hooke (The Real Review)

97+ points - "Cherry, raspberry, rose petals, assorted spices, cardamom in particular, but such beautiful and beguiling aromatics here. It’s medium to full-bodied, cherry and red fruits, almond and light earthiness, tannin is is pixelated and so fine, offering a refreshing and nourishing grip, acidity is fresh, and the finish is ‘minerally’ and incredibly long, with a little fennel and rose closing it out. Nuts good." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

The fruit was sourced from Block 5 of the Little Branch
Vineyard in Blewitt Springs, from 104-year-old bush vines
planted on sandy loam with ironstone and quartz at 140
metres above sea level. The vineyard faces north and is
unirrigated, managed organically, with all pruning and
harvesting completed by hand.
Harvest began on 20th March, marking the Sunrise Block’s
100th vintage. Whole berries were gently shaken from the
rachis and transferred to a seasoned 4,000-litre French oak
fermenter for twice-daily pumpovers. The wine was gently
pressed on 31st March, settled in tank for 19 days, then
racked off gross lees into seasoned French oak puncheons
for malolactic conversion and maturation. It was racked once
before being bottled unfined and unfiltered on 4th July
2023. Alcohol 14.5%; pH 3.41; TA 5.7g/L; total sulphur
72ppm.
Highly perfumed, deep, and vivacious, the wine opens with
aromas of cranberry, cherry, and raspberry, complemented
by hints of rose, bergamot and white pepper spice. The
palate is focused and refined, with incredible length and
tension. Dense flavours of forest berries and pomegranate
are wound around savoury, earthy, ferruginous tannins,
while a lingering Earl Grey tea character carries through the
finish. An elegant wine of great finesse and delicacy. –

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
