Description

The 2023 Robert Stein Dry Riesling is an absolute stunner from one of Mudgee’s most iconic winemakers.

With a cult following, this small-batch Riesling is an essential drop for lovers of crisp, zesty whites. Crafted from old vines grown at high altitude, it’s packed with fresh citrus, white flowers, and a gorgeous minerality that reflects its quartz-rich soils.

On the palate, it’s pure energy - racy lime, a touch of sweetness, and that signature chalky finish. The acidity strikes perfectly, leaving a long, mouth-watering finish that makes it hard to put down.

Halliday Wine Companion’s Shanteh Wale gave it 95 points, praising its "pulpy, heavenly" texture and vibrant citrus-driven bouquet. Drink it now for its youthful charm or cellar it for 10 years of evolution.

This is a versatile Riesling, brilliant with fresh oysters or as a refreshing aperitif. If you haven’t already joined the Robert Stein Riesling fan club, this vintage will convert you.

95 points - "The majority of fruit is sourced from their estate vineyard at 580m above sea level in Mudgee. Delicate lilies of the valley meet freesia and star jasmine. A bouquet of pretty white blooms. Zested limes in a creamy cheesecake filling, sugar almonds and salt flakes. It slithers on the palate with the glide of a viper, and acidity strikes with its tail. It's pulpy and heavenly. Another outstanding vintage of this Mudgee beauty." - Shanteh Wale (Halliday Wine Companion)

95 points - "Fresh as a daisy, this brand new 2023 Riesling was tasted at the cellar door with winemaker Jacob Stein. It's so new it hasn't made an appearance on the website just yet. Little has changed from previous years - it's another brilliant release.

So aromatic, it's simply a stunning and glorious Riesling. With a captivating citrusy tang, beautiful aromas of white flowers spill from the glass. The vineyard sits 580 metres above and the quartz soils certainly make their presence known. That minerally vibe walks hand in hand with generous squeezes of lemons and limes. There is still some tension evident with chalky feels on close. I wish I could have sipped on this all afternoon, it's absolutely delightful.

Drink now to embrace the freshness or it will age comfortably for 10 years+." - QWine

NOTES

This Riesling was made from fruit selected mostly from our own Stein vineyard, and from numerous other Mudgee sites all with high elevation and over 40 years of age. The fruit was handpicked and whole bunch pressed, then fermented cool in a stainless-steel tank using an inoculated yeast.

TASTING NOTES

A classical dry Riesling, with all the lime and fruit characters you would expect, and a crisp and racy finish with a slight touch of sweetness. This wine has the ability to age beautifully.

FOOD PAIRING

This style of Riesling is well suited to shellfish and seafood, especially fresh rock oysters. A brilliant aperitif wine.
