Description

Martin Moran grew up in Mendoza, walking the family vineyards as a child before an accident took his grandfather and, for years, put wine out of reach. He found his way back to it through an agriculture degree specialising in viticulture and oenology, then made his way to Australia - vintages in Langhorne Creek, Adelaide Hills and McLaren Vale - where he met and married Michelle, and with her parents' help, started making wine of his own.

The Gaucho is his homage to Mendoza, made from a single vineyard in Langhorne Creek, a region built for Malbec the way his hometown is. It's big and bold, true to the variety's roots, packed with purple florals, ripe plum, whiffs of chocolate and a peppery spice that carries through a long, dry finish. Structured and plush at once.

If you love Malbec with real weight and personality behind it, and a winemaker who's lived the variety on two continents, check this out.

"If you’re still wondering what makes malbec special, wonder no more. Try this. It starts with the variety’s exceptional colour – inky purple-black; next the distinct aromas of tar, warm earth, even a little peaty, pepper, pomegranate and fresh herbs. Flavours come in the form of dark plums and cherries, licorice and choc-mint, while the medium-bodied palate is full of grainy, shapely tannins led by the upfront acidity. Thoroughly enjoyed this; one of the most pleasing malbecs I’ve had in quite a while."

*** Mordrelle’s beautiful labels are created from original artworks painted by Martin Moran's late father, renowned Argentinian artist Jose Luis Moran. The artworks are available for sale through the Mordrelle website.

Customer Reviews

This wine was produced with grapes from a single vineyard located in Langhorne Creek, a region that delivers superb Australian Malbec. It displays an intense purple colour with violet floral aromas, and flavours of ripe plums and chocolate combine with subtle spices and hints of black pepper. It finishes dry with very silky tannins and a lengthy fruit aftertaste. This Argentinean gaucho, a strong spirited nomad, shares my Argentinean heritage, and my hometown of Mendoza’s passion for Malbec.

Mordrelle

Martin Moran was born and raised in Argentina, where his infatuation with viticulture and winemaking began as his grandfather would walk with him through their family vineyards in Mendoza.

He went on to specialise in viticulture and oenology, and eventually found himself in Australia to work vintages across the Langhorne Creek, Adelaide Hills and McLaren Vale regions. It was here that Martin stayed, falling in love with (and marrying) his wife Michelle and embarking on the dream of starting their own boutique label - starting with their first wine, a sparkling created just for their wedding!

They specialise in premium, aged sparkling wines, but you'll find plenty of joy in their reds and whites too.

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
