The Ministry of Clouds team have a love for Riesling, believing it to be the grape most expressive of terroir.

This expression from them is all about purity, with handling in the winery to a minimum to allow the fruit to really shine.

Mouth-watering citrus acidity paired with gentle minerality come together to define this beautiful, graceful wine. Perfect for spicy dishes, dumplings, or sharing on the balcony. Refreshment plus.

95 points - "Watervale and Penwortham. I sat down to taste these wines with co-winemaker Julian Forwood, and I said, this smells of lavender, and he was quite happy about that.

Pretty, perfumed, lavender, and pink grapefruit, lime. Juicy, firm powdery texture, pure and long, with a cinch of refreshing tonic bitterness. The mouth-feel of it is excellent, but not at the expense of purity and classic expression of Clare Riesling. Top shelf." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

No where to hide…

Of all the many grape varieties, Riesling is the most transparent expression of a vineyard site. We have long loved the more crystalline expressions of Clare Valley Riesling, which embrace the exquisite risk inherent in delicacy and fragility. Never a wine about winemaker ego, or manhandling in the winery, just purity…

Composition
From the third consecutive La Nina vintage we enjoyed another cool growing season, with flavour developing slowly over time, but with the chance of disease higher than previously, time walking vineyards was essential! The 2023 vintage comprises about 93% grapes from the terrarossa/ red loam laid over limestone of the renowned Watervale subregion often referred to as "The Golden Mile", with picking times staggered to retain natural acidity. The balance is sourced from the lean, hungry and rocky soils characteristic of the cooler and later ripening hills of Penwortham.

Consumption
All of the dumplings! Who doesn't love dumplings? Think prawn har gow for brunch after a big night out. Also suited to cellar for up to 10 years for a more complex and intriguing Riesling expression.

Ministry of Clouds

Ministry of Clouds is a partnership between wine industry 'veterans' Bernice Ong and Julian Forwood, who set up the venture in 2013, with their first releases coming in 2015.

Having worked for some of Australia's leading wineries such as Yalumba and Wirra Wirra, the duo began sourcing outstanding fruit from Tasmania and Clare Valley for white wines, and McLaren Vale for reds.

McLaren Vale is their home, and as well as their own 11ha plot, they seek out old vineyards around the peninsula, with a focus on Grenache, Mataro, Shiraz and Tempranillo, along with the occasional foray into Carignan and Picpoul.
