Description

Winemaker Peter Dredge doesn't put a foot wrong when he's got fruit this good to play with, and this is simply a top-flight Tassie Riesling.

As is often the case with Riesling from this part of the country, retaining a little residual sweetness here was the key to balance.

A wine of impeccable line and length, this is ripe for drinking immediately or tucking away for up to a decade in the cellar.

98 points & Top 100 Wines of the Year
"It’s such a ravishing wine, as rich and deep as it is pure and fine. Redefines citrus."
- James Halliday (The Weekend Australian)

95+ points
"Top shelf, though comes with the caveat that you have to like them on the more piercing side."
- Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

98 points & Top 100 Wines of the Year - "Beautiful Meadowbank, on Tasmania’s upper Derwent River, is primarily a grape grower with 52ha of vines – enough for only 800 dozen directed to wines contract-made by Peter Dredge. It’s such a ravishing wine, as rich and deep as it is pure and fine. Redefines citrus." - James Halliday (The Weekend Australian)

95+ points - "Juicy stone fruit, honey and white flowers, lemon curd, lime, a little spice, and a subtle mineral/petrol note. It’s intense and flavoursome, really bursts through the mouth, green apple mouth-watering acidity, wonderful chalky grip to texture, and a kiss of sweetness on a very long and zingy finish. Is that some ginger in the mix too? It’s all the things, and also, it tastes very pure. Top shelf, though comes with the caveat that you have to like them on the more piercing side." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

93 points - "Made by Peter Dredge, who split the fermentation between stainless steel and old French oak barrels. Bright lemon yellow colour. Dried mango and lemon verbena aromatics. Powerful and intense at the core; mango and lime fruits build contrast and tension with an undertone of oyster brine that is accentuated by a racy line of acidity. Sweetness is in there, but it stays in harmony with the other elements, all ensuring length and poise to the finish. (Screwcap)" - Stuart Knox (The Real Review)

    Very Nice

Great wine and you can tell it's not a cheap riesling. There was more fruit flavours than I was expecting, but still dry.

    Great Riesling!

Really enjoyable. Pronounced citrus and green apple notes, very refreshing and great spring time drink.

This wine is a tropical haven full of rich and multidimensional flavour. Ultra-unctuous and sensationally zingy on the palate, with aromas of both passionfruit and lemon/lime minerality. A delightful juxtaposition of sweet yet sour, but still so dry and refreshing - we are genuingely excited to see how this wine continues to evolve.

For those who are yet to taste these over the years, a quick heads up that this is not a typical Aussie Riesling. Our grapes originate from very old Tasmanian vines (planted at Meadowbank in 1974) combined with Gerald's more recently planted German Riesling clones. The cool-climate conditions that sweep through our hidden valley continue to produce fruit of exceptional taste and quality. Our winemaker, Peter Dredge, then splits these Riesling ferments between stainless steel tanks (for refined freshness) and old French oak barrels (for complexity and texture) - the final blend produces a wine where high acid and a gentle kiss of residual sugar dance together in perfect harmony. A truly captivating wine that is completely and utterly delicious.

We highly recommend grabbing a 6-pack of this wine and storing some in your cellar - you can certainly enjoy drinking it right now but as with all of our of our rieslings, they're only going to get better with age! As Tyson Stelzer previously noted - "Remarkable line and length promise grand things in decades to come."

Meadowbank

Meadowbank is one of the oldest vineyards in Tasmania with the Ellis family having farmed this site since 1976.

This is one of the most important sites on the Apple Isle.

After taking a brief hiatus from producing their own wines, Meadowbank now has the formidable talents of winemaker Peter Dredge at their disposal.

With Dredge in the winemaking hot seat, Meadowbank is set to be one of the benchmark producers in Tasmania for many years to come.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
