A pioneering wine here if ever we had one!

The story of how Gruner Veltliner came to be at Lark Hill is an interesting one, and a brave one. It started with renowned wine writer Jancis Robinson remarking that the variety would be well suited to their site in the Canberra district. An obsession with the grape, and with biodynamic farming, soon followed.

In 2009 they released Australia's first commercially successful Gruner and have been at the head of the pack ever since, along with Hahndorf Hill in the Adelaide Hills.

This wine shows class Gruner Veltliner characters of cut herbs, green melon, white pepper & black fig. The palate shows texture and length from skin contact and barrel fermentation, all balanced with steely acidity. 

A lovely drink any time over the next 5 years, and a great dinner party option!

There are some perfumed orange blossoms backed by sliced pineapple, poached apples, white pepper and cumin spice. A note of hot sand and dried lemon rind. The palate maintains the electric energy that has always been present in this iconic bottling with a smoked salt salinity in the middle palate and a dried hay and straw like texture veering to a bone dry finish. This vintage brings new dimension with young vine fruit from the Dark Horse vineyard added into the blend. This extends the spectrum of dishes available for what is already a food friendly wine. Think along the lines of zaatar bread and smoked dips. One of the most thoughtful and deliberate Grüner Veltliners of this country.

With flavours of cut herbs, ripe fig and white pepper, fine texture and mineral acidity, our GV is a delicious food friendly wine. It has also demonstrated a capacity to develop wonderful depth and complexity with age. Our vineyards are managed using Biodynamic principles for sustainability and to best express their unique terroirs
