Description

Damon Koerner is exploring a new face of the Clare Valley. Looking at working with sustainable growers, making wines with little interference and diving into a world of new varieties for the region.

Here's a new kid on the Clare Valley block. Sciaccarello (Shak-ar-ello) is an Italian red skinned grape, originating from Corsica. It's known for being perfumed, vibrant and rarely seen as a solo variety, traditionally blended away.

Here the Koerners make it sing. It's a light-bodied red with serious charisma.

Frisky and fresh feeling with a unique vibe, curious wine drinkers looking for interesting light-bodied reds should walk this way.

Only 430 dozen made.

"It’s a light yet structured red wine, typically a few rungs up the ladder from rosé styles, but wholly its own thing. Drunk with a chill it soars... It stretches out taut and long, finishing very refreshing. Serious rosé or precise light red, you choose, but it’s a ripper any which way."

94 points - "It’s a light yet structured red wine, typically a few rungs up the ladder from rosé styles, but wholly its own thing. Drunk with a chill it soars. That shiny garnet colour in the glass. You don’t drink with your eyes, as I often say, but geez, this is inviting. It’s crisp red cherry, fresh and pickled, maraschino notes too, some tangy cranberry, rose hip tea, all bright, fresh and yet gently savoury with faint pepper, bay leaf and dried mint elements alongside. Tannins are ultra fine yet feel laced with crushed rock and brine-like mineral qualities. It stretches out taut and long, finishing very refreshing. Serious rosé or precise light red, you choose, but it’s a ripper any which way." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

    Standout release for Koerner

One of my favourite wines of the last couple of years. Pronounced acidity, rose petal, raspberry, and spice.

Light and bright red – aromatic, spicy and super acidic

Koerner

Growing up in Clare Valley, Damon Koerner developed a deep connection with the region's rich wine history. In 2014, he and his brother Jono launched Koerner Wines to bring fresh energy to their home turf, creating vibrant, modern wines that feel both distinctly Clare and cutting-edge.

Koerner Wines is all about blending tradition with innovation. Damon’s organically-minded approach and contemporary techniques – like fermenting and ageing in clay amphora – result in wines that are bright, food-friendly, and ideally suited to Australia’s climate.

Using his family’s Gullyview vineyard alongside nearby plots, Damon works with Clare Valley classics like Riesling and Cabernet, while also embracing more unique varieties like Carignan, Sciacarello, and top-notch Vermentino. His wines showcase Clare Valley’s diversity, revealing unexpected sides of this iconic region. With a recent expansion into the Adelaide Hills, the range continues to grow and mature.

As one of Australia’s most celebrated young winemakers, Damon Koerner is redefining what Clare Valley & Adelaide Hills wines can be. If you haven’t tried Koerner Wines yet, it’s high time to explore these excellent South Australian vinos.
