Description

This is Barossa Grenache, but not as you know it. The Kalleske family have taken a fresh angle with Parallax - harvesting their certified organic Grenache earlier than usual, fermenting on stalks, and keeping oak use to a minimum. The result? A bright, lifted, refreshingly savoury wine that sits firmly in the modern camp.

At just 12% alcohol, it’s a far cry from the full-throttle reds the region is known for. Instead, you get all the perfume and crunch of early-picked Grenache - stems, spice, red fruits, a little meatiness and a touch of wildness that makes it seriously moreish. It’s light in body but not in character, with plenty of texture and a dry, food-friendly finish.

This is part of Kalleske’s push to reimagine traditional Barossa varieties through a contemporary lens, and it’s been executed with real flair. If you're looking for a fresher take on Grenache that’s made with integrity and grown with care, this ticks a lot of boxes.

"Super stemmy and bunchy… A riot of souk-like spice, dried meats, red and blue fruits, amaro herbs and florals… Medium bodied with chalky tannins, gamey funk, and a wicked spice and floral plume on the finish."
- Dave Brookes (Halliday Wine Companion)

"Light and frisky but dry and grapey… Raspberried, rusty, briney, minerally, nutty and floral. Finishes dry and more-ish—begging for food in the best way."

94 points - "Such a wild-smelling wine. Super stemmy and bunchy. It looks almost pinot-esque as you pour it from the glass. You take a sniff and POW! It's a riot of souk-like spice, dried meats, red and blue fruits, amaro herbs and all manner of floral facets fluttering around the glass. Medium bodied with chalky tannins and a fair bit of funk in the trunk with gamey tones and a wicked spice and floral plume on the exit. This and some charcuterie and you're off to the races." - Dave Brookes (Halliday Wine Companion)

92 points - "The enjoyment factor of this wine is right up there. It’s light and frisky but dry and grapey too. It doesn’t have much weight or depth and yet it has fruit flavour and perfume. It’s raspberried, rusty, briney, minerally, earthen, nutty and floral. It really is all those things. And it finishes with a dry version of more-ishness; as a result it begs for food in the best of ways. Big fan here." - Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)

Parallax: Parallax is when an object appears to change its position because the person or instrument perceiving it has changed their position.

Parallax Grenache… the object is the same, Grenache… but the winery perceiving it has changed their position… hence the emergence of a neoteric expression of this classic old vine Barossa varietal…

Grenache is one of the most widely planted red wine grape varieties in the world. It is typically harvested late in the season when it is fully ripe to display gorgeous rich sweet red fruit characters and soft supple tannins with a generous and supple mouthfeel. But when harvested early in the season a divergent and equally impressive wine can result.

Parallax Grenache is picked 2-3 weeks earlier than normal and combined with fermentation on stalks and minimal maturation has resulted in an admirably divergent wine compared to the norm from this variety, showing the versatility of Grenache.
