Description

Hurley’s Garamond block has long been the most statuesque of the three Pinot sites, and 2023 underlines why. The vines sit on volcanic soils with good depth, planted in 1998 and always the last to be picked. That longer hang time builds a darker, more brooding expression of Mornington Pinot, with the structure and grip that set Garamond apart from Lodestone and Hommage.

The season was cooler than recent years, giving wines across the Peninsula a fresher edge and more subtle perfume. In Garamond, that translates to a Pinot that still has its trademark density but carries a finer thread of acidity and aromatic lift. Vinification is straightforward at Hurley – hand-picked, destemmed, open fermented and matured in French oak (around one third new) – the aim always to let site and season do the talking.

This is serious, age-worthy Pinot, and one of the great Mornington single vineyard bottlings. Quantities are tiny, and Garamond is usually the first to vanish, so don’t hold back if you want some in your cellar.

"A phenomenal wine that will continue to evolve with cellaring."
- Huon Hooke (The Real Review)

97 points - "Medium ruby-red colour. Fragrant nose of dark cherries, star anise, cola and prosciutto all lifting from the glass. Medium in weight but packing a great amount of red berry and cherry intensity. That power is accentuated by a mix of cola and anise spices and as it drives a deeper curing meat undertone. Great length carried by fine acidity and powerful, sandy tannins that almost feel endless. A phenomenal wine that will continue to evolve with cellaring." - Huon Hooke (The Real Review)

94 points - "Lovely aromatics through all four of the ’23 pinots, with Garamond smelling of a sweet shop and a pastry outlet rolled into one. Red lollies, mint, roses and frangipane strawberry tart. How enticing! Sure, it has the requisite cherry accents and savoury notes, blood orange, too, and it’s tangy, a little tart across the palate where sinewy tannins jostle with the perky acidity. It needs food as a partner." - Jane Faulkner (Halliday Wine Companion)

One of the best

This is one of the best PN from the Mornington and definitely the best one from Hurley. What a stunner

A beautiful experience

Scents of berries, flowers and earth. Complex and sophisticated. The fruit flavours linger.

One of Australia’s top Pinots!

This is a quality Pinot built for the medium to long term. Great drinking now too but decant for an hour at least.

Hauntingly Beautiful

This is easily in my top 5 Australian pinots. A magnificent beauty, the Garamond shows the hallmarks of impeccable winemaking. It is finely balanced in structure, the fruit very pure and the tannins fine and feather-like. It's top class pinot, very Burgundian, with an ethereal perfume that is intoxicating. The palate is intense with red cherries and spices. Seriously good. Lovers of pinot will not be disappointed.

Garamond exudes effortless style. It ripens evenly and is always harvested last. It is classical. In this wine, the fragrance of Hurley Vineyard is the perfume of the boudoir. It is a step up in complexity and intensity. In the palate, there is usually an array of soft, red fruits, plus meat, mushrooms and cake spice. It is succulent, creamy and sweet, but balanced by lively acidity. The wine usually tastes of red minerals and has fine, silky tannins. There is often toffee. The palate is typically tight and firm in its youth, opening up as time goes on. Garamond is complete, ends fresh and lives long.

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
