Description

Dave Fletcher has built his winemaking life around Nebbiolo - first in the hills of Barbaresco, where he still makes wine at the historic Cantina Cerrato, and now, occasionally, back home in Australia with bottles like this. The Minion is Dave’s tribute to the grape that stole his heart, made with Victorian fruit but shaped by years of hands-on experience in Piedmont.

It's a no-frills approach - wild ferment, no fining or filtration, and ageing in seasoned oak - letting the grape and the place speak for themselves. The fruit comes from multiple Victorian sites, each vinified separately before being blended for balance. It’s structured and savoury, unmistakably Nebbiolo in its bones, but with a bit of Aussie swagger through the mid-palate.

As Dave puts it, he's “a bit of a stranger” in Langhe - but he's found a home in Nebbiolo. This bottle is a nod to that journey, bridging two hemispheres through one grape.

    Very good Aussie Neb

Light, fresh, moreish, good value and varietal.

I have a heavy addiction to Nebbiolo, and I live in Barbaresco where I'm completely surrounded by it. I'm also Australian by birth and that means I'm a little bit of a stranger amongst the hills of the Langhe, but I do feel like it's home now.

My addiction has taken me on a ride that I would never have dreamed of. I started making wine from the day I left school, and even though I didn't inherit a winery or watch my Dad work the vines, it's been an uncontrollable passion for me since day one.

I use 100% spontaneous fermentation, but with a 'pied de cuve' method. I use old wood in the form of Barriques and Botte Grande. I never, ever, filter the wines or use fining agents.

Fletcher

Dave Fletcher fell in love with Nebbiolo early in his winemaking career.

After some time spent in the Nebbiolo Mecca, Piemonte, Dave moved his whole family and life there to pursue his passion for the variety. He took up a position as winemaker at famous producer Cerrato and still makes the wines there to this day.

His own label has been a slow labour of love to get off the ground but now it's in full swing. Through sourcing select plots of fruit from local growers in Barbaresco and planting his own vines, his small eponymous label is now taking flight.

Precious little of the Fletcher wines make it to Australia and they sell out in a flash. If you're a true enthusiast of Nebbiolo, you need to get to know Dave's wines, they offer brilliant value for money.
