Description

Treinta y Dos comes from a remarkable vineyard in Mainqué, Patagonia — planted in 1932, ungrafted, and farmed organically and biodynamically. When Piero Incisa della Rocchetta found the site in 2003, it was in decline. He restored it vine by vine, and it’s now the flagship of Bodega Chacra and one of the most respected Pinot Noir vineyards in the Southern Hemisphere.

The 2023 is fermented naturally, with ageing split between concrete tanks and seasoned French oak. It’s the most structured wine in the Chacra range, yet still carries the lifted perfume and mineral thread that define the estate. Darker-fruited than its siblings, with a savoury undercurrent and fine, persistent tannins, it’s built to age but has the balance to drink earlier.

Allocation is always tiny, and demand well outstrips supply — this is one of Patagonia’s benchmark reds, and a reference point for Pinot Noir outside Europe.

98 points - "The aromas of this red are rather endless, with rose petals, rose stems, strawberries, sliced oranges, crabapples and hints of white pepper and peaches. Medium-bodied with depth of fruit, intensity and crushed stone flavors. Linear, racy and vibrant, with brightness and energetic length. From vineyards planted in 1932. 11.2% alcohol. Drink or hold." - JamesSuckling.com

97 points - "Originating from vines planted in 1932 on silt-rich soils with sand and a small amount of clay, the 2024 Treinta y Dos is the densest, deepest and most powerful expression of Chacra, offering a beautiful counterpoint to the lighter and more ethereal Cincuenta y Cinco bottling. On the nose, it retains the fragrant floral quality that permeates the range, enhanced by a layer of dark-fruited, savory undertones that lead to a round, elegantly concentrated palate. It concludes with a similarly powerful, punchy finish lifted by ultra fine-grained grip, marking the only appearance of tannic presence in the Chacra lineup. With further aeration, it continues to develop additional dimension and an ever-increasing ethereal lift, causing it to slightly surpass the Cincuenta y Cinco bottling. This is a wonderfully executed expression of Patagonian Pinot Noir and serves as a reference point for the region." - Matthew Luczy (The Wine Advocate)

96 points - "Gunpowder, iron filings, dark cherry, thyme and lavender and biscuit spices. Layers of things, very complex, tight, black pepper. So very ‘mineral’, blue fruit, superb gravel and ironstone tannin, a slight liquorice richness, plenty of perfume on a finish of great length with a burnt orange peel cinch to close. Super wine. Individual and charismatic." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

    High Quality Pinot

Very high quality wine. Will benefit from further cellaring.

Chacra Treinta y Dos is a single vineyard wine, made from old vineyards planted in 1932 on a land layered with clay, sand and pebbles. The most structured of all Chacra’s wines, Chacra Treinta y Dos is meant to be aged. Its soft characteristics and velvety tannins, however, make it drinkable at a younger age. This red balances toasted spice and mesquite notes with the macerated cherry fruit character, remaining fresh through the mineral-tinged finish.

Bodega Chacra

Bodega Chacra is located in the Rio Negro Valley of northern Patagonia, in the dead centre of Argentina.

Founded in 2003 by Piero Incisa della Rocchetta - the grandson of Marchese Mario Incisa della Rocchetta, creator of Sassacaia, one of the monuments of Italian wine. After trying a Patagonian Pinot at a tasting in NYC, Piero began searching for site in the Rio Negro region, a search that bore fruit in the Mainque area. He took over a site with ungrafted vines dating back to 1932, and the development of a world class winery too shape, with a focus on organic and biodynamic viticulture.

He brought legendary Meursault producer Jean-Marc Roulot on board to aid in the planting and vinification of Chardonnay - not a bad advisor! Piero's dedication to producing outstanding Pinot Noir and Chardonnay was rewarded when Chacra Treinta y Dos Pinot 2018 was named Best Wine in the World by James Suckling.
