Brendon Keys is red hot on Gamay for a future hero of the Adelaide Hills.
Where many sites in the Hills are bordering on too warm for high-quality Pinot Noir, Gamay could be the thing to replace it for lighter-framed, juicy red wines that are primed for chilling before drinking.
These are the oldest Gamay vines in the Adelaide Hills, grown organically by Brackenwood in Kutipo.
This version is quite 'grown-up' in style, built around 100% whole bunch ferments, yielding a spicy, structural style of the variety as opposed to some of the jubier, more fleshy versions emerging from the region.

"Smoky and reductive but alive and, dare it be said, thrilling. This is a red wine that can, simultaneously, be described as dry, light, impactful, soft and stern. It tastes of strawberries, unsweetened. It's alive with twig and spice notes. Its dryness is a sheet, flat, taut, exacting. This is modern Australian wine running barefoot through the hills, fun-loving from a distance but serious up close."
