Description

Bindi’s Quartz Chardonnay is always a bit of a mystical release. It comes from a tiny half-hectare patch at the top of the hill where the soil is absolutely littered with white quartz. While the winemaking isn't drastically different from the Kostas Rind, the fruit from this specific spot just seems to vibrate on a higher frequency. It’s the same DNA, but with every dial turned up to ten.

The 2024 vintage was a cool, wet ride in the Macedon Ranges, but you wouldn't know it from the composure here. There’s a wonderful calmness to the wine. It’s packed with grapefruit, lemon curd, and a distinct flinty, river-stone character. The oak - about 35% new - is perfectly tucked in, adding just a hint of spice and a creamy, oatmeal-like weight without ever crowding the fruit.

This is a serious, tightly wound Chardonnay defined by its energy and saline drive. It’s incredibly polished and flows with a seamless, long finish that keeps you coming back. With only a couple hundred dozen made, it’s a rare bird, but for those who value tension and power, it remains the benchmark for the region.

98 points "Extremely polished and tightly wound, with an underlying power and tension that will age magnificently. Exceptional." - James Suckling

97 points "The flavour swells to a wonderful intensity in the mouth without any shrillness or sharp edges... Outstanding chardonnay." - Huon Hooke (The Real Review)

98 points - "Bright, light-mid yellow colour with creamy lees, candle-wax, oatmeal aromas, the flavour swells to a wonderful intensity in the mouth without any shrillness or sharp edges, the component parts beautifully harmonised and the wine flowing evenly to a very long finish. Outstanding chardonnay, great to drink now and undoubtedly has many years ahead of it." - Huon Hooke (The Real Review)

97 points - "There’s a calmness to this which belies the difficult, cool/wet season. But, sometimes, a wine just shines. This is superfine and long with mouth-watering acidity leading and extending across the palate. It’s all about citrus – especially grapefruit with a lemon-saline character and lemon barley water – while the judicious use of oak adds some weight, spice and a slip of tannins; the lees are a gossamer layer of cream. Moreish, savoury and ultra-refreshing, this has come together beautifully." - Jane Faulkner (Halliday Wine Companion)

97 points - "Aromas of minerals, lemon curd, flint, orange blossoms and chalk. The palate is medium-bodied with energetic acidity and a creamy texture, giving complex notes of candied grapefruit, pralines, river stones and ruby grapefruit. Extremely polished and tightly wound, with an underlying power and tension that will age magnificently. Exceptional. Drink or hold. Screw cap." - Ryan Montgomery (jamessuckling.com)

At the upper end of the Chardonnay planting, where the quartz incidence in the soil is the greatest the fruit has extra complexity, finesse and intensity. This wine comes exclusively from this soil. This area is approximately half one hectare in size. The characteristics are similar in the Quartz Chardonnay to the Kostas Rind Chardonnay but all aspects are amplified here yet remain in complete harmony.

The winemaking is the same for both wines however the Quartz Chardonnay sometimes spends a few months longer in barrel and there is a higher percentage of new wood used, being around 35%.

Production varies from 150-250 dozen per vintage.

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
