Description

Grenache this good doesn’t need dressing up. Grown on 80-year-old vines on the Adelina Home block, this is one of the quiet achievers of Clare Valley - made without fuss, but with a clear sense of purpose.

The fruit was destemmed, half of it crushed, then fermented in concrete and a Drunk Turtle amphora. It stayed on skins for three weeks, then matured in the same amphora for ten months. No oak. No makeup. Just clarity and texture, straight from the site.

This vintage is bang-on. Light on its feet but with real shape and tension, it’s all red fruit, spice, and energy. The tannins are fine and sandy, the finish savoury and clean. There’s lift, detail, and a kind of ease to the whole thing that makes it incredibly drinkable now but it’ll hold up if you want to let it sit.

One of the best expressions of Clare Valley Grenache you’ll find, full stop.

"This sits beautifully at medium weight, cinched with ultrafine, graphite-laced tannins, very slim-line and succulent... The texture is beautiful, otherworldly almost, the wine delivering levity and finesse for the variety. And, importantly, so damn delicious."
- Mike Bennie (Halliday Wine Companion)

"Bright and pure with high-toned, red-fruited aromas of dried strawberries, wild raspberries... There's a high level of energy and polish here that will develop gracefully in bottle. Drink or hold. Screw cap."
- Ryan Montgomery (James Suckling)

96 points - "From the organically grown (certified) home vineyard. Matured in concrete and cement-terracotta vessels. This sits beautifully at medium weight, cinched with ultrafine, graphite-laced tannins, very slim-line and succulent with red cherry and tart raspberry characters, with a fine dusting of dried herb and white pepper, faint game meat notes, a lemon myrtle kind of lift, touches of alpine herbs, too. The texture is beautiful, otherworldly almost, the wine delivering levity and finesse for the variety. And, importantly, so damn delicious." - Mike Bennie (Halliday Wine Companion)

95 points - "Red cherry, raspberry, pomegranate, white pepper, dried herb and rosehip perfume. It’s medium-bodied, fine and lacy, kind of subdued and quite light, with some orange peel bitterness, but gee, it really floats around the mouth with a gossamer feel to it, and offers a tangy finish of excellent length. What a beautiful and distinct expression of Grenache this is. Delicate and wonderful." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

95 points - "Bright and pure with high-toned, red-fruited aromas of dried strawberries, wild raspberries, bittersweet herbal liqueur, spices and dark cherries. The palate is finely constructed with firmly framed tannins and a bright acidity that leads into a tactile, succulent and savory finish. There's a high level of energy and polish here that will develop gracefully in bottle. Drink or hold. Screw cap." - Ryan Montgomery (James Suckling)

    Elegance and finesse

From the perfume of raspberry/pomegranate and first taste, this Grenache is beautiful. It glides along the palate, all finesse, no edges. Why pay more for Pinot or Burgundy when you drink a red as good as this.

Adelina

Adelina Wines, established by Jennie Gardner and Col McBryde, is situated in the Springfarm Valley of Clare Valley. With vineyards dating back to 1910, the estate includes Shiraz, Grenache, Mataro, Malbec, and a unique field blend. Col and Jennie, both PhDs in microbiology, have transformed the vineyard with organic farming methods, achieving certification in 2020.

Their wines are known for delicacy, purity, and terroir expression, featuring old vine Shiraz and Mataro, exceptional Nebbiolo, and vibrant Rieslings. The 80-year-old Grenache vines produce fine-boned, high-toned wines, while the Shiraz showcases bold flavors and impressive tannins.

Sustainability is central to their approach, with minimal water use, manual weeding, and maintaining native scrub. They are also pursuing carbon-neutral certification. Adelina Wines embodies quality and innovation, offering wines that reflect their unique terroir and sustainable practices.
