Description

Taboadella’s Villae Tinto is a classic, easygoing red that brings together four of the Dão’s key grape varieties - Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo), Jaen (Mencía), Tinta Pinheira, and Alfrocheiro. Sourced from hand-harvested, dry-farmed vineyards on granitic soils, it’s a pure expression of the region’s rustic charm, with plenty of freshness and energy.

Fermented in stainless steel and aged partly in concrete tulip tanks, it keeps the focus on bright fruit and soft tannins. It’s the kind of wine that feels right at home on the table, built for good food and good company. No overthinking required - just pour a glass and enjoy.

With roots dating back to the 1st century, Taboadella continues to honour its long history while embracing a thoughtful, modern approach to winemaking. This release is a great example - authentic, fleshy, and seriously easy to drink.

91 points - "Nicely baked brambly raspberries and red cherries with potpourri, violets and peppery spices. Very structured and vertical, showing chewy tannins that balance the fruit ripeness. Lots of fleshy fruit and also lots of bones. Better after 2025." - - Zekun Shuai (James Suckling)

There is something about red wines like this that exude a rustic charm without that duty element that can ruin it. This brings all those lovely primary fruits to the front, and frames it beautifully with gentle tannin. A table red of Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo), Jaen (Mencia) and a pair of Dao natives - Tinta Pinheira and Alfrocheiro. A wine that speaks more than the sum of it's parts. Deep blackberry, currants and ripe plum, baking spices and a lovely lacing of an earthen quality. Not a thinking wine, a drinking wine and as comforting as they come. A delight.

About Taboadella:
Taboadella is an estate in the Dao, Portugal that dates back as far as the 1st Century, that has been claimed by the Roman Empire, The Knights Templar and many aristoratic families over the millennia. Today it is under the custodianship of the Amorim family, who farm 42 ha of Dao varieties from 30 - 100 years old, such as Encruzado, Jaen (Mencia), Alfrocheiro and Touriga Nacional, managed as bush vines and farmed without irrigation.
