Description

Fluus (meaning 'Flow') is a delicious, unfettered blend of red Rhone varieties, predominantly from the Barossa Valley, compiled and composited by the skilled hands of Abel Gibson.

This version takes a detour from previous releases, with winemaker Abel Gibson adding Adelaide Hills Syrah and Gamay for an aromatic lift and an extra degree of freshness.

The blend is 43% Syrah, 22% Grenache, 18% Cinsault, and 17% Gamay, combining 71% from 2021 barrels and 29% from 2022. It's a finely tuned multi-variety, multi-region, multi-vintage blend composed by one of the most thoughtful vignerons in the Barossa Valley.

In the glass, Fluus is all about energy and flow. There is wonderful balance, a fresh and juicy version of a Barossa Valley red wine with a delicious underlying earthy element which anchors the wine and sets it apart from some of other the 'jubey' modern red wines of the region. Fluus is the perfect way to get acquainted with this gem of a Barossa/Eden Valley producer.

"It’s such a delight. Such. Slurpy but with cool threads of alpine herbs, peppery spice, sleek tannin and red and black cherry fruit characters. The tension is there too, tannins sweeping through and holding the juiciness in, a slight chomp through the finish lending authority. It feels elegant in a way, but the drinkability is all charm. A pinosity of sorts emerges, despite the depth of fruit and spice. Energy is another word to be thrown into the mix here – it feels very alive and vibrant with each sip. Jeepers. Too good."

Sorry you didn't enjoy the Fluus Ian. It's definitely a leaner style for the Barossa, from a cooler year too. Let us know if we can ever provide some suggestions for anything else. Cheers :)

This year sees the return of Fluus, albeit not quite as it used to be. With the reality of low yielding harvests sinking in, our good friend Dave offered us the opportunity to purchase a few small parcels of Syrah and Gamay from the Adelaide hills. We gave it a go. I'm glad we did. It was a real treat to guide some Gamay grapes into wine (it is one of our favourite varieties to drink here at home). The Fluus is a blend of 71% barrels from 2021 and 29% from 2022. It is a blend of Adelaide hills Syrah 43%, Barossa Grenache 22%, Barossa Cinsault 18% and Adelaide hills Gamay 17%. It’s important to us that the Fluus is aromatic, succulent and a food friendly red. The inclusion of Syrah and Gamay from the hills (for this release only) has helped us achieve that.

Ruggabellus

Ruggabellus - meaning 'rugged beauty' - is one of the breakaway producers of the much written about 'New Barossa' movement.

A deep connection to the land of the Barossa Valley underpins Abel Gibson's winery. Raised amongst the vines of the Barossa, the cellars of Penfolds and Rockford, with the guidance of local wine legends such as Charlie Melton and his father Rob Gibson, Abel has carved a unique path for his brand.

Ruggabellus focuses on sensitive blends of old vine Syrah, Mataro, Grenache and Cinsault from great old vineyards with freshness and vitality always the key. Oak is never new. Additions are minimal.

The 'whites' are some of the country's finest examples of skin contact 'amber' wines. The variations on Riesling, Muscat and Semillon that are entirely world-class. These are rare and truly authentic Australian wines.
