Description

The name Sang de Pigeon is drawn from winemaker Michael Hall's time as a jewellery valuer. Meaning "Blood of the Pigeon", this title was given to only the reddest of rubies in the trade.

Here, Michael uses it to describe the fine fruit selected for this lovely Shiraz. The fruit is sourced from a combination of four different vineyards from Stone Well, Greenock and Krondorf.

It's made with Michael's signature deft touch resulting in a classy and great value version of Shiraz from this famous region.

    Excllent drop - amazing value

Really enjoyed this Shiraz - everything I would expect from a Barossa Shiraz. Came on here to add it as a favourite to order again and see what it was worth because it tasted expensive and was very surprised by this extremely reasonable price point! Currently out of stock, if it comes back in stock - better be quick! I'm going to be all over it!

    Nice drop

Typical Barossa Shiraz with a lovely bold flavour. Took a punt on this one and it paid off.

Sang de Pigeon (pigeon’s blood) is a nod to my former life as a jewellery valuer. It’s the trade term for the colour of the finest rubies, invariably from the Mogok Stone Tract in Myanmar. The precious grapes for this fragrant and deeply coloured wine were grown far to the south-east, in South Australia’s Barossa Valley.

For wine nerds like me: Fair winter rains were punctuated by a rare October hailstorm in Stone Well, damaging young shoots and reducing yields. Hand-picked from Smyth Road, Stonewell Road and Flaxman’s Valley. 88% destemmed, 12% whole bunch, wild fermented, pressed to French oak, matured for 20 months in barrel (36% new).

4320 bottles produced.

Michael Hall

It is Michael Hall's precise and methodical approach to winemaking which has made him stand out in the crowd of Barossa Valley winemakers.

A jewellery valuer in a previous life, his wines ooze clarity and attention to detail. They focus on small vineyards in the Barossa and Adelaide Hills that produce high-quality fruit. The wine are made with no shortcuts in the winery and an unwavering commitment to quality.

These are classically styled, refined wines designed to speak articulately of the Barossa and the surrounds. Michael's wines are top shelf.
