Description

The 2022 De Iuliis Shiraz is consistently one of the Hunter Valley's best-value reds, and the 2022 does not disappoint.

Founded by Joss and Anna De Iuliis in Lovedale, De Iuliis Wines flourished under the winemaking of their son Mike, who brings both modern energy and deep respect for Hunter traditions to each bottle. This Shiraz is crafted from low-yielding vines on the family’s original estate alongside select parcels from the Steven and Talga Road vineyards. The cooler 2022 season allowed for slow ripening, capturing purity and depth in the fruit.

In the glass, expect aromas of ripe blackberry, red plum, and a hint of black pepper. Medium-bodied with fine tannins, the palate delivers dark fruit and a subtle earthiness, finishing with a lively touch of spice.

Ready to drink now, this versatile Shiraz is perfect for casual BBQs or hearty meals, and a great introduction to Hunter Valley Shiraz.

92 points - "There is great value to be found in this cracking entry-level wine estate shiraz from De Iuliis. It is a beautifully made, expertly blended wine with good energy, clarity and flow. High-toned cherry and raspberry notes invite one into the flavoursome, long, medium-weight palate. Accents of spice that weave their way through the palate only add to the charm. It's fabulous for the price and simply delicious." - Toni Paterson (Halliday Wine Companion)

    Cracking Hunter Shiraz

This is some serious gear at a ridiculously good price. Great balance for a young wine.

THE STORY

The Hunter Valley crafts some of Australia’s most captivating shiraz. Powerful yet nuanced, it showcases bold fruit flavours perfectly balanced by peppery spice and earthy undertones. We craft our Hunter Shiraz using a blend of grapes from our family vineyards, capturing the region’s essence.

THE WINE

Aromatics of ripe blackberries and juicy red plums, are accented by a hint of cracked black pepper and earthy spice. On the palate, the medium-bodied wine explodes with those same dark red fruit flavours. Hints of earthiness and bright acidity intertwine with firm tannins. This creates a lingering
finish that keeps you wanting more.

THE VINTAGE

A cooler ripening period yielded elegant red wines with intricate fruit profiles. Breakthrough rainfall after a drought paved the way for an outstanding growing season. A cool summer and timely heat spikes fostered stressfree ripening, ensuring optimal flavor development and high natural acidity.

THE POTENTIAL

Don’t wait for a special occasion! This approachable Hunter Shiraz is ready to be enjoyed now and can develop further complexity over the next five years. It’s a testament to the classic Hunter Valley style, where every sip is a celebration of the region’s unique terroir.

THE MATCH

Skip the fancy occasion pairing! This versatile Shiraz is a crowdpleaser, perfect for any casual get-together. Fire up the BBQ and enjoy classic fare—juicy steaks, sausages, or even grilled vegetables like eggplant. The bold fruit characteristics and smooth tannins will stand up to anything you throw on the barbie!

De Iuliis

De Iuliis - pronounced [de uli ~ iss] - is one of the brightest stars from the Hunter Valley.

Owners Joss and Anna De luliis first planted vines on their estate in the famous Lovedale sub-region back in 1990, but it wasn’t until their son Mike got involved after graduating from the world-renowned Roseworthy campus (Adelaide University) in 1999 that things really took off.

Today Mike crafts an excellent array of site-specific wines that are a very good modern representation of what the Hunter Valley has to offer.
