Description

Evangeline is a great example of what Chaffey Bros. does so well - making Barossa reds that don’t lean on size or flash but let the vineyard do the talking. This one’s from the Noack family vineyard up in Springton, where the cooler climate gives the Syrah a bit more lift and crunch.

You get blue fruits, a touch of pepper, some savoury edges, and just the right amount of oak from 18 months in big old barrels. It’s medium-bodied, bright, and has this effortless feel that’s pretty rare in Aussie Shiraz. The tannins are silky, the acidity’s spot on, and it all comes together without shouting for attention.

The 2021 release disappeared after winning a huge international trophy, and with only 490 cases made of the 2022, it won't be around for long. Whether you crack it open now or let it sit for a few years, you’re in for something that’s all about balance and drinkability, not just power.

"A heavenly red with serious pedigree. Earthy notes, black fruits, leather, beef stock, soy, and cloves... Seamless style, fine acidity, satiny tannins, impressive length, and elegance."

"Full vibrant ruby red colour, blueberry, white pepper, bayleaf aromas. Medium bodied, vibrant with blue fruits, raspberry, pepper spices, herbal notes, fine tannins, and long finish. Quite delicious drinking."

93 points - "There was me thinking that we had a wine named in tribute to The Band and that great song of theirs, 'Evangeline' (anyone who has not seen The Last Waltz - surely the greatest concert film of all time - needs to move it top of their bucket list immediately). Apparently not so. Rather, it is a biblical reference to salvation. Well, The Band did play with Dylan for so many years, so perhaps we are somewhere halfway. However one wants to interpret this, it is a heavenly red. And it has a serious pedigree, with the previous vintage winning Decanter Magazine's Best in Show. 490 dozen. This is a vibrant magenta colour with a rather savoury nose. There are earthy notes, along with black fruits, leather, beef stock, soy and cloves. Seamless in style with fine acidity and satiny tannins, there is impressive length. Good intensity throughout and yet it retains a degree of elegance, this is a wine with a very promising future. It should provide pleasure for the best part of a decade. Drink now-2034." - The Vintage Journal

93 points - "A very loud, lifted perfume shows familiar cool climate Eden Valley characteristics of violets and bright purple fruit. The slimline palate is more controlled, showing modest blueberry over blackberry and some sunny ripe plum in a plush mid-palate that persists and lingers until the soft-grained tannins guide it down to gentle landing." - David Sly (Decanter)

92 points - "Full vibrant ruby red colour. Blueberry, white pepper and bayleaf aromas. Medium bodied, vibrant and lively with blue fruits and raspberry along with pepper spices and herbal notes. Tannins are finely wrought, a lift of acid gives it another layer and it carries to a good long finish. Quite delicious drinking." - Stuart Knox (The Real Review)

EVANGELINE* presents an elegant cooler climate expression of Shiraz distinct from its Barossa Valley brethren with its lifted perfume and delicate structure. Cool blue fruits are intertwined with silky tannins and subtle oak influence from 18 months maturation in fine grain French oak puncheons and hogshead barrels. Perfumed. Confident. Elegant. No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
