Description

This is Adelina’s younger vine Shiraz-Malbec blend - a livelier, more open-knit expression from blocks planted between 2013 and 2017, alongside a smattering of old vine fruit. Grown in their Springfarm estate on red sandy loam over slate and clay, the vineyard’s organically certified and farmed by hand, with minimal inputs and maximum attention.

Shiraz makes up most of the blend, with 15% Malbec adding a little crunch and darker fruit. The fruit’s destemmed, given a gentle 7-day ferment, then aged in French oak (30% new) for a year. No heavy extraction, no fancy tricks - just clean, thoughtful winemaking that puts the site first.

The 2022 drinks younger than most Adelina reds - medium-bodied, fragrant, with fine tannin and a savoury edge. There's spice and lift rather than weight, but still enough depth to make it feel complete. A great entry point to the range, and a smart, modern Clare Valley red that’s easy to enjoy now but not lacking in interest.

"Sweet-earthiness, aniseed and green olive feature in dark plum... rosehip tea-like sweet-sourness and chew."

"Fresh blackberry, plum, some mint, dried herb and baking spice... a cranberry and rosehip tea sort of thing in the mix."
- Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

93 points - "85/15% shiraz/malbec, with the latter from young vines on the Adelina estate vineyard. The shiraz comes from older vines and a nearby vineyard. This is savoury-as; sweet-earthiness, aniseed and green olive feature in dark plum on the crisper edge of ripeness. It swishes around with light, grippy tannins with a rosehip tea-like sweet-sourness and chew. A sprightly, medium-weight feel to the wine despite some serious concentration. Good drinking." - Mike Bennie (Halliday Wine Companion)

91 points - "Col says “We’ve called this Young Vine, the basis is young, I guess? With a smattering of Malbec planted in 2017 (15%), then the rest of the Shiraz component is a 2017 planting (40% of the total blend) and then 2013 planting (the remainder). A 7 day ferment, pressed to French barriques, 30% new.” It’s a frisky and kind of crunchy red for Adelina. Fresh blackberry, plum, some mint, dried herb and baking spice. Medium-bodied, a cranberry and rosehip tea sort of thing in the mix, some firm grainy grip to tannin, with a bright and gently sappy finish of good length. It’s not sporting the usual level of concentration you’d expect from Adelina (young vines apparent, bolstered with a little oak magic) though it’s a pleasing drink that offers plenty of energy and interest." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

Adelina

Adelina Wines, established by Jennie Gardner and Col McBryde, is situated in the Springfarm Valley of Clare Valley. With vineyards dating back to 1910, the estate includes Shiraz, Grenache, Mataro, Malbec, and a unique field blend. Col and Jennie, both PhDs in microbiology, have transformed the vineyard with organic farming methods, achieving certification in 2020.

Their wines are known for delicacy, purity, and terroir expression, featuring old vine Shiraz and Mataro, exceptional Nebbiolo, and vibrant Rieslings. The 80-year-old Grenache vines produce fine-boned, high-toned wines, while the Shiraz showcases bold flavors and impressive tannins.

Sustainability is central to their approach, with minimal water use, manual weeding, and maintaining native scrub. They are also pursuing carbon-neutral certification. Adelina Wines embodies quality and innovation, offering wines that reflect their unique terroir and sustainable practices.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
