About the Wine
The cool kids these days are calling this style of wine glou-glou - light and juicy wines which are low on tannin and high in acid, made for easy drinking and refreshment. This Sangiovese definitely fits into that spectrum.
It's brightly coloured and uber-fragrant, with exotic spices, candied cherries and fresh thyme exploding out of the glass. It's a racy thing too. The acid is linear and cleansing, carrying raspberry cordial and cherry liqueur. It's not super complicated, but it's not meant to be. This is good ol' fashioned fun, and will happily go into the cooler bag.
About Konpira Maru
Konpira Maru is the story of Alistair Reed and Sam Cook coming together from various parts of the wine industry to start their own creative outlet for making fascinating, minimum intervention wines. Their first release, a mere 600 bottles, was in 2014.
Their success, particularly with wonderful Pet Nats has allowed them to expand their horizons. They source fruit from growers in central Victoria and the South Burnett and Granite Belt regions in Queensland. And from 2016 they have been organically farming their own Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Meunier and Pinot Gris in Whitlands, high above the King Valley.
