Description

This is yet another cracking red from Faber, this time taking Malbec fruit from the Frankland River and Donnybrook subregions of WA.

It sees a whole 10 months in American oak, some new and some second use, imparting spice and vanilla notes to the aromatics and palate.

It's a plush, pillowy black-fruited Malbec with ample layers of more-ish flavour. Satisfyingly powerful.

92 Points - "Black fruit, dried roses, nutty vanilla oak. It’s medium to full-bodied, rich and plush, mixed berry flavour, supple tannin, a light savoury note of smoky bacon oak, some rose oil and dried herb perfume, and a ripe and satisfying finish. It’s a bit come-hither in style, but very good to drink. I like it." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

90 Points - "Deeply tinted ruby to purple in the glass. Meaty and ripe black fruits on the nose. Weighty and full on the palate with dark fruits, and oak spices filling the senses. Tannins are firm enough to focus the flow and it has good length." - Stuart Knox (The Real Review)

92 Points - "A blend of Donnybrook and Frankland River fruit here. Sees time in new and old American oak barrels. Raspberry and blackberries, sweet spice, coconut and vanilla to sniff on. Flavours similarly set with a web of fine, tense tannin lending some pucker and refreshment factor. While reasonably ripe and rich there's a lift and vibrancy in tow. It's a flavoursome, well-judged and balanced, medium-weight wine. Drink in the flurry of youth." - Mike Bennie (Halliday Wine Companion)

It’s never the highest-scoring wine, but it’s always the best drink. This is one of those – “once the cap comes off, it doesn’t go back on” – kind of wines. Juicy, fruit-forward, a pillowy mouthfeel with plenty of velvety tannins that keep you coming back for more. It’s not a confusing wine, you either like it or love it. And we love it.

Faber Vineyard

John Griffiths & Jane Micallef established Faber Vineyard in 1997, after John spent 10 years gaining all the knowledge he could on how to make fantastic warm climate wines.

They chose to plant and embrace "traditional" varieties that thrive in the Swan Valley, like Verdelho and Shiraz, turning them into rich and flavourful wines with supreme drinkability and age-worthiness.

The aim of Faber Vineyard is to continue to make their mark on Swan Valley wine by creating wines with their signature house style.
