About

About The Wine

The Fieldie is an all-purpose, easy drinking white wine forged from Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon and a few friends.

The fruit spent ten days on skins before being sent to a mixture of stainless steal and old barrels for a sleep before release. The time on skins has had a gentle impact on the texture, lending a slight grip and a faint tinge of colour to the wine, yet it remains fresh and vibrnt in the mouth.

It's a juicy, refreshing fruit salad of a wine with a trim acid line and a refreshing finish.

About South by Southwest

Founded by two wine adventurers, Mijan Patterson and Livia Maiorana, South by South West is a contemporary, meandering négociant working in an age-old profession.

In addition to their own organically farmed Wallcliffe vineyard, fruit is sourced independently from a loyal network of pioneering growers - the results are small batches of unique and ever-changing styles, varietals, and blends that highlight the charm of the south west region.

From The Producer

Once harvested, the fruit was gently destemmed and crushed into a stainless-steel tank where it was kept on skins and cooled for 10 days. After this skin contact period, the fruit was pressed to barrels and stainless steel (50/50) where it completed ferment. Malolactic Fermentation wasn’t encouraged, but wasn’t discouraged in the barrel component, with about half the barrels undergoing natural secondary fermentation. Secondary fermentation was not encouraged in the tank portion to maintain the fresh and flinty nature post ferment. The wine remained in oak and tank for seven months of maturation prior to bottling.

Critic Reviews

DDS review

"In a glass the wine presents with a vibrant straw tinged yellow. This is a perfumed and very aromatically focussed wine with a gentle hint of natural reductive tones. The palate expresses a freshness and brightness of fruit, which is on the savoury spectrum with some highlighted phenolics. Careful older oak integration and some gentle stirring on yeast lees have resulted in a textured component to this wine, which, together with the overall leanness of this wine brings structure." - South by Southwest

The Wine Front

"Scents of green melon, cut grass, citrus. Fresh feeling. The palate is juicy, fleshy, round, soft. More grassiness, nice, tart stone fruit flavours, a dash of citrus again. Doesn’t feel as if there is much skin fermentation here, but texture is good, the powdery finish the only tell for the winemaking approach. Good drink." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)
