About the Wine

The name Jasper Hill has become synonymous with Shiraz, and this blend of Georgia's Paddock fruit - accompanied by some purchased "friend" grapes from Heathcote - really puts that on display.

Their viticultural practices are formed around the idea of preserving nature's flavours, and all of their wines are grown, made and bottled using organic principles. They try to have as little human interference as possible through their winemaking process, to really allow the terroir to express itself.

If you like a bold Shiraz that still maintains its elegance, this one's for you.

About Jasper Hill

Jasper Hill is a Heathcote institution, established by Ron and Elva Laughton in the late 1970s, with their first vintage coming back in 1982.

Their vines are chemical-free, unirrigated and certified organic and biodynamic. With second generation winemaker Emily McNally (nee Laughton) taking up the charge of her father, they aren't slowing down anytime soon.

Additional Info

From the Producer

A very small vintage of excellent Georgia’s Paddock fruit, which was complemented with the addition of some purchased Heathcote “friends” grapes to produce this blend. Lifted aromas and flavours of complex, mixed ripe red and black berries with typical spiciness. If you can call a 15% alcohol wine elegant, the resulting wine has the expected magenta colour, with the normal fabulous balance between high acidity and supple tannins. Not quite as massive as some previous vintages by deliberately picking slightly earlier, this is delicious now as an ideal match for red meat / duck dishes and also has medium term cellaring capability.

Blend : Shiraz (100%)
ABV : 15%

"Extreme drought preceding the 2020 vintage resulted in a small harvest. Georgia's Paddock fruit was complemented with friends' grapes from within the region. Another high alcohol, difficult year with an unknown percentage of Georgia's Paddock blended with other Heathcote fruit. The result is rather more bullish and lush than what we might normally taste, but this is definitely rich and endowed with Heathcote class. And, yes, signature Georgia spice is on show." - Jeni Port (Halliday Wine Companion)
