About The Wine
This is Pinot Noir from the Latta family vineyard in Ballarat.
It's proof positive of the efficacy of Owen Latta's singular approach to winemaking and grape-growing. Everything is done slowly, with intent and purpose. The wine is released after some time in bottle to allow the wine to relax. It's a supreme, unique expression of the grape from one of the country's most talented young vignerons.
Owen's Pinot Noirs are distinctly savoury, more 'old-world' in their stylings than the more polished, fruit-forward styles you may see from other Victorian regions.
It's a firm, structural style of Pinot Noir that will develop beautifully with more time in bottle.
About Eastern Peake / Latta Vino
Is anyone working as hard as Owen Latta to put Ballarat in the mix of Australia's foremost wine regions? At only 15 years old he completed his first vintage at Eastern Peake alongside his father and has since taken on the full-time running of the business.
Owen is the man primarily responsible for both the Eastern Peake and Latta wines, the former of which being dedicated to premium Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from the Eastern Peake vineyard, and the latter being Owen's personal project all about innovation from a range of excellent central Victorian vineyards.
The wines are all gently brought to life with very astute yet hands-off winemaking, and Owen's low and zero-sulphur wines are some of the best examples in the country. These are thrilling, absolutely unique Victorian wines, and quite simply Owen Latta is one of Australia's finest young winemakers.

A great low pressure growing season, we managed to get most things correct in the vineyard. Under vine cultivation worked a real treat with the soil moister content on each pass. Cropping levels still were pretty low across the 3 blocks of Pinot Noir , a lovely fruit set. Fermented naturally in wax lined open concrete vats 3000L, basket pressed, 12 months élevage in 228L barriques, no fining or filtering, bottled 6 months after racking from barrel. A small amount of sulphur post malo & pre bottling

"A good year for pinot noir for Eastern Peake, the wine naturally fermented in the old, 3000 litre concrete vats and then hung out in barriques. Intrinsic describes the unified expression of Eastern Peake’s blocks of pinot(s). These wines age a treat, and, in youth, drink with charm. This is a sappier, spicier number, bright in sour-sweet cherry fruit character, pomegranate juice, clove-garam masala spice notes and whiffs and licks of brambly, mint-sage leaf herbal character. Sheathed in a web of ultra fine, lacy but gently puckering tannins, bright as a button and sleek through its excellent length. Despite the trim and tuck of tarter fruit profile the wine feels of woods and earth and quite significantly savoury. My kinda pinot noir, but also speaks fluently of pedigree, balance, refinement and persistence. It’s very good." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

Warehouse Pickupis available from our Sydney warehouse in Ultimo, 2007. Just select Local Pickup at checkout. We are open 8am to 4pm, Monday to Friday.

Do I have to order in dozens? No, please mix it up! You can order wines in any quantity and variation you like. You can order 1 bottle or 50. We challenge you to make the ultimate mixed pack of wine!
Are there volume discounts? No, our pricing is designed to be the best in market already - no marking up and then discounting down! For very large orders (weddings, etc) we are open to negotiating though. Just give us a call.
Do we price match? Yes, within reason. Everyday low & consistent pricing is something we strongly believe in. We want our customers to feel confident they are always getting the best price. If you see a price lower somewhere else let us know and we'll consider matching it. We'll even retrospectively issue you store credit if you have already purchased from us but you see a lower price somewhere later on. Our price match policy can be seen here.
Can coupons and discounts be stacked? No, only one discount or coupon can be applied to an order at once.
I am trying to add more of a wine to my cart but it won’t let me? This means we are running low on stock of that wine. So for example, if the website will only allow you to add 3 bottles and no more, then that is all we have of that particular wine. The good news is we may be able to order more for you. Just contact us on 02 8376 8775 or hello@differentdrop.com and we'll organise the additional quantity for you.
Does Different Drop have a physical store? No. Just an a warehouse/office. We occasionally do events however, so sign up to our newsletter or follow us on instagram to stay in the loop.
Can I special order a wine you do not sell? If it’s doable, then we’ll make it happen. Just contact us directly via phone, chat or email and we’ll find out for you right away. Please note that in most cases special orders such as these will need to be in full case lots (6 or 12 bottles).
